Now that she is a partner in New Orleans’ Lagniappe Bookstore, Samantha “Sammy” Richardson is enthusiastic about helping her neighboring businesses and friends with their promotional events. Artistic Coffee and Creations is hosting an art show opening by the artist Griffin, and the coffee shop’s owner Libby Tyler is excited to be featuring the works of her former professor Griffin Blackthorn.
Breydon, a five-month-old Wheatie, came into Greater NY/NJ Scottie Rescue from a Mennonite puppy mill. Like so many puppy mill dogs, he has a genetic defect in that he has no knee joint in a rear leg. To make matters worse, he was kept in a cage preventing the leg muscles from strengthening. Consequently, he was dragging his leg when he came into rescue.
It was an avalanche of unfortunate events that led professional pastry chef Chloe Barnes to return home to Azalea Bay, but she has never been happier. Helping her grandmother recover from chemo treatments introduced Chloe to the study of cannabis production and use, which in turn has her now opening her very own Baked by Chloe café.

I love coffee, and some of my favorite mysteries are set in coffeeshops. Cleo Coyle’s Coffeehouse Mysteries was the first series to introduce me to this wonderful combination, and a few years ago I discovered another coffee-related mystery series, the Ground Rules Mysteries by Emmeline Duncan. The Ground Rules Series is also set in one of my favorite places, Portland, Oregon. The fourth book, Death Unfiltered, was released recently.
The third season of The Madame Blanc Mysteries just finished airing on AcornTV and this season was just as much fun as the previous two. Acorn TV is a perfect place to find a wide variety of mysteries.
This week we are reviewing 4 more fun cozy mysteries--these involve bookstores, cats, Scotland, and a bed and breakfast--A Killer Romance: A Book Reads Mystery by Maggie Blackburn, Mrs. Morris and the Mermaid by Traci Wilton, Murder at a Scottish Castle by Traci Hall (Traci Hall and Traci Wilton are the same person), and Fur Love or Money by Sofie Ryan.
The past month has been a literal “catnado” of cats. Just since my last column I have sent 30 cats to rescue and helped fix over 50 cats. The bulk of those were TNR projects but some were private pets. I help people get appointments and navigate the Cat House on the Kings new voucher system. It is pretty simple but not everyone is computer savvy so I help them get the vouchers, make the appointments and often I must assist with transporting the cat as well.
Spring is here, and so is Easter. What foods could I feature for The Great Food Search? I thought about it, and the first thing that came to mind was an Easter Ham. The second thing I thought of was the Easter Egg. Then in a flash of insight, BAM! Sandwiches! There are sandwiches with ham, and there are sandwiches with egg. Of course, the path to figuring out the theme of this GFS was a bit more torturous than that, but “On with the Show!”
