Great Food Search—Best of 2019
2020—I can see clearly, now…as I look back at The Great Food Search 2019. Over thirty-five different places where I’ve eaten over the year. Which were the best? My top five?

Another year of theatre in the Valley has come and gone, and it was another amazing one. There is so much talent in the Valley that no one needs to go to New York, Los Angeles, or San Francisco to see a great show. Let’s take a look back at some of the highlights!
Heavy metal and burgers are two great tastes that taste great together. For Grant Mohler, he’s one lucky individual to make both of those things into a career. Not only is he the vocalist of local heavy metal band, Crushing The Deceiver, but is also the owner/cook of the Clovis restaurant, Cravings. A cook by day, but rock star at night, a very unconventional man Grant is, and his life is best exemplified by his restaurant and music.
Welcome to the twinkling Christmas magic of Clovis’ Candy Cane Lane. The Holiday Spirit is readily apparent as visitors make that first turn onto Peach Avenue, just north of Alluvial and enter onto Athens Avenue for a treat you will never forget. Don’t be surprised to see that the street signs turn from brown to festive red inside this winter wonderland that includes about six dazzling blocks of shimmering lights, inflatables, and Christmas Cheer.
A Christmas Carol: A Live Radio Play is being presented in Clovis this month by a new theatre company in the Valley, Action Community Theater. We took a moment to chat with the show's director Maxwell Debbas about the company and the show. This will also be a fundraiser to help with the Syrian Refugee crisis.
CenterStage Clovis is presenting a fun holiday cabaret on December 12! We took a moment to chat with the new Board President/Artistic Director for CenterStage Darren Tharp about this event and some others coming up in 2020.
Good things come in small packages, and few people know the truth of this old saying more than Joel and Margie Weber. They’re the founders/owners/operators of Rocky Oaks Goat Creamery in Clovis, producers of a variety of unique, hand-crafted artisan goat cheeses.
In the matter of CenterStage Clovis vs. Legally Blonde: The Musical, both parties came out the winner. An exuberant cast cheerfully brings the story of the 2001 Reese Witherspoon comedy (based on Amanda Brown’s novel) to tuneful life on the Mercedes Edwards Theatre stage. It’s funny, brisk, and there are a few delightful casting surprises.
After stuffing myself with ice cream in June, I turned the Great Food Search toward a more healthy highway of food—salads. Some people look down on salads as that green stuff they have to chomp through before they can really eat something, but the dishes I am about to introduce to you are more than a mouthful—this is FOOD!
When I was a kid, something I could always count on during the summer was an excursion "out to the country” to pick produce. Peaches, strawberries, corn, and black-eyed peas were readily available at you-pick farms scattered throughout the rural areas just outside Fresno.
