CenterStage Clovis is presenting a fun holiday cabaret on December 12! We took a moment to chat with the new Board President/Artistic Director for CenterStage Darren Tharp about this event and some others coming up in 2020.

KRL: How did you come up with the idea for the Cabarets? And why at a restaurant? And how did you end up picking DiCicco’s?

Darren: This was a funny coincidence. CenterStage Clovis has always been a “summer stock theatre company”- we do one or two shows during the summer and then we disappear until the following summer. We have been looking for ways to continue our presence in the community year-round. Around the same time, DiCicco’s Old Town Clovis asked if we would be interested in performing in their lounge space. It was a perfect match! We developed our version of four distinct cabaret shows to give Clovis a different perspective on musical theater.

KRL: What type of stage area does DiCicco’s have?

Darren: DiCicco’s provides an intimate space in their lounge but allows us to bring in our own lighting and sound for each performance.

KRL: Are the Cabaret’s also a fundraister for the next show?

Darren: As a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, we are always fundraising to keep the art we produce alive. The Cabaret Series is an opportunity for CenterStage to further our core values by partnering with businesses in our community to provide fun, quality entertainment to Clovis & Fresno audiences.

KRL: How do you pick the songs and performers that will be singing at each Cabaret?

Darren: Our performers were chosen from CenterStage performers from past & present. We had a list of several songs and let each performer pick the songs they wanted to sing. We will hold auditions for future cabarets

KRL: What are some of the songs that will be performed at the holiday one?

Darren: Spoiler Alert! The song list includes many Holiday Classics like “Frosty the Snowman”, “Winter Wonderland”, “12 Days of Christmas”, “Silent Night”, and much more to get our audiences in the holiday spirit.

KRL: Who are some of the performers we will be seeing at the holiday one?

Darren: Our cast is: Peter Allwine, Mady Broach, Camden Johnson, Sarah Rosenthal, Adamme Sosa, & Ke’Lea Wilkins. They will be joined by The Front-Line Quartet. The show will be hosted by Jonathon Hogan.

KRL: Do the performers rehearse on their own, or do you have regular rehearsals?

Darren: We do have scheduled rehearsals.

KRL: Do you have more Cabaret’s coming in 2020 and if so, what are the themes and when are they?

Darren: Yes! We will be working on a whole new set of themes and will announce them in March of 2020.

KRL: Do you know what show/shows you will be doing in 2020?

Darren: We have a title or two that we’re looking at for CenterStage Clovis’ 30th Season. The formal announcement will be in January.

KRL: How do people go about purchasing tickets for the Holiday Cabaret and how much are they?

Darren: Show tickets are $15 & can be purchased at www.centerstageclovis.com. It’s general seating, so first come, first served, and we encourage folks to come early and grab a bite to eat before the show.
