It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year….and it’s officially here!

Welcome to the twinkling Christmas magic of Clovis’ Candy Cane Lane. The Holiday Spirit is readily apparent as visitors make that first turn onto Peach Avenue, just north of Alluvial and enter onto Athens Avenue for a treat you will never forget. Don’t be surprised to see that the street signs turn from brown to festive red inside this winter wonderland that includes about six dazzling blocks of shimmering lights, inflatables, and Christmas Cheer.

Our society puts so much pressure on the ‘perfect’ Christmas: tree, food, family, everyone being together, gathered around the tree, happy, cheerful. Not every year nor every family has that. But it’s not new pressure. I think women, in particular, have always felt the stress to make Christmas special for their family. I look back and wonder how my mom did it all. She worked full time as a nurse - and that meant shift work, and holidays, too - but still the whole family got together, if not on Christmas day, then on Boxing Day.

Knit, purl, knit, purl. I can do that, I thought to myself. My youngest son needed a sweater and I wanted to expand my skills, so I leafed through the knitting patterns in the book. There was a Norwegian pattern with white snowflakes and reindeer at the top. I had never knitted a pattern with two colors, but I was going to try.
