I have lived in Reedley my entire life and seen restaurants, drive-ins, and fast food places come and go, but there are those that have had tremendous staying power for good reasons. I decided it would be fun to share some of my thoughts on why these places have stayed while others have come and gone.
I don’t know of any fruit or vegetable that announces a changing season as does the pumpkin. When pumpkins show up in the market I know that Halloween is only weeks away and that soon there’ll be a range of festivities: family gatherings, friends coming together for food and drink, a time for gift giving, and then the year ends with champagne and an explosion of fireworks.
The Reedley Downtown Association's gala event is fast approaching, touting fine cuisine from 30 food providers that call Reedley home. As the hysterical historian, I have been thinking back over my 65 years as a Reedleyite and of the 50-odd restaurants, cafes, diners, hotdog and frosty stands, drive-ins, bars and dives that came before.
When I was asked to do a review of the Italian restaurant Valentino's, I was excited because many family members have experienced their food both at its new location in downtown Reedley and when the restaurant resided on Manning across from Savemart.
