I keep trying to write a clever opening for my review of the Selma Arts Foundation production of Shrek the Musical, but I can’t seem to come up with anything. Instead, I’ll tell you the truth—the show is funny, the production really works, the cast is energetic and impressive, and you’ll be glad you went. I know that’s not an exciting way to review a play, but that’s what I’ve got.

This Valley is filled with an amazing amount of creative talent and every now and then we like to give our readers a chance to get to know some of that talent offstage. This week we are profiling one of the younger actors in Fresno, Tyler Branco. You may have seen this 22-year-old actor’s wonderful performance as Shrek, in Shrek the Musical at Roger Rocka’s, and later this year you will get to see him there in West Side Story and Addam’s Family.

Puss in Boots is a computer-animated movie that tells the cat’s story before the Shrek movies occurred. Just like in the Shrek movies, Puss is voiced by actor Antonio Banderas. The movie shares about how he was in an orphanage as a kitten and became best friends with Humpty Dumpty who was obsessed with finding magic beans.
