Over the summer I had a chance to read some of the hottest new titles on the literary market. From Cinder, by Marissa Meyer to Battle Royale, by Koushun Takami, I’ve read at least 80 different titles for my "Summer Haul" this year. Here are a few of my absolute favorite books.
We don't have a movie review today so thought it would be fun to provide some more reading suggestions for your holiday and the beginning of fall. Some of these are brand new books coming out this month, and others are from earlier this year.
A major drug bust in Vancouver, Washington has law enforcement and Animal Control calling zookeeper Iris Oakley in for help removing the collection of animals being housed on the confiscated property. However, instead of pets Iris and her coworker Denny discover a massive collection of smuggled wildlife, including several parrots and numerous endangered tortoises.
Looking for a light, fun mystery to enjoy this summer? Three Seconds to Thunder would be the perfect choice. Set in 1896, in the lush forests of the Pacific Northwest, China Bohannon longs to move up from office girl, dogsbody and book keeper to be an investigator in her uncle’s detective agency. She also has crush on her uncle’s partner, Grafton Doyle.
As Hubert “Hubie” Schuze repeatedly declares to his friends, law enforcement, and himself, Hubie is not a pot thief, as it’s impossible to steal from dirt. The pots, he believes, actually belong to the long deceased original pot throwers and not the museums and collectors who have since obtained them. As a result, Hubie has no problem reclaiming the pots and selling them from his New Mexico store to support his extended family and friends.
It’s the dog days of the TV year, even if you don’t count CBS’s new show Dogs in the City. The 2011 season of scripted drama has cliff-hanged and juddered its way to shocking finales, and now June gloom is upon us. Besides looking for some NCIS or Good Wife episodes that I might have missed the first time around, there are a few shows that I am looking forward to.
