Valley Animal Center: Clear the Shelters at Super Adoption

Since 2015, NBC Universal Local has helped more than 860,000 pets find their furever homes through their nationwide annual pet adoption campaign, Clear the Shelters. In Fresno County, this campaign is led by NBC affiliates, KSEE24 and Telemundo Fresno. Local no-kill shelter for dogs and cats, Valley Animal Center, has teamed up with them once again August 1-31 to clear their shelters, but their efforts don’t stop there.

Well, here we are, my dears, already crossing the unbearable border of July into the unforgiving wasteland of August. The sun shoots down sweltering bolts of flaming fingers, wrapping themselves around you and holding tight like a crazed hand from Hell. Not enough sunscreen can be slathered on, no big hats are floppy enough, and that gigantic glass of iced tea cannot be cold enough.

Lindy The Parrot Says Hello

Lindy was a double, yellow-headed, Panama parrot. He was given to my mother by her father around the time Lindbergh made his historic flight. So, of course, she named him Lindy. Lindy was well established in the family before my arrival. However, since parrots live almost as long as humans, he was a teenager and still pretty active when I was born.

If you don’t work in rescue, you may not be aware, but over the last year especially, the number of homeless pets and pets being returned to shelters and rescues is in numbers far above our “normal” crisis levels. Taking home overly protective dogs can seem like a challenge to some. When an animal shows this kind of behavior, it does come from a place of aggression, but also from love. Dogs especially love wholeheartedly, and when they bond with someone, that love never goes away. With socialization and patience, a dog’s true loving nature can be expressed.

Andy Carpenter is an attorney and not nearly as retired as he’d like to be. Although he tries to avoid work, cases seem to find him. Take for instance, his most recent involving Hollywood actress Jenny Nichols. Andy doesn’t like to brag but does take the opportunity to mention as many times as possible, he and Jenny dated in high school. She’s in New York shooting a movie and letting on that she’s staying at a hotel there.
