Several years ago, I took up writing again - which led me, recently, to Kings River Life Magazine, and Lorie Lewis Ham, its Editor-in-Chief, and publisher. For the past several months she has given me assignments on articles to produce, several of which originate within Sanger, California.
Fresno bluesman Glen Delpit has been making music and art for almost half a century. Kings River Life sat down with the artist and musician to discuss art, blues, and the creative process.
Even though it is more known for its fruit than the arts, Reedley definitely has its fair share of artistic talent. Last year a new art gallery opened in downtown Reedley to showcase the talent of two artists--long time painter Paul Buxman, and photographer Andrew Shinn. We took a moment recently to chat with Andrew about the gallery. They hope to have an official grand opening this summer.
The last exhibition of the fall semester at the COS Art Gallery will feature paintings by California artists Mary Bardmess and Burton Rein. This engaging exhibition, Near and Far, will open Tuesday, November 8, and run through Friday, December 2, with the opening reception on Thursday, November 10 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
When you think of Reedley, you may only think of a small agricultural community that lacks the culture of the big cities like Los Angeles or San Francisco, especially those who have lived in the town for most of their lives or have just found themselves placed here. Not many see what seems very obvious to some, that there are “creators of culture”, so to speak, right here in this valley, specifically Reedley.
