“The stage is alive with The Sound of Music.”
That’s right! The songs of Rodgers & Hammerstein return to Roger Rocka’s Dinner Theater in a Good Company Players production of The Sound of Music through September 15.
It was born in 1960 as a quicky Roger Corman film shot mostly in two days, but it grew. It sprouted off-off-Broadway as a musical in 1982, then propagated Off-Broadway later that year, eventually crawling to Broadway. A film of the musical blossomed in 1986. It has grown all over the world, and has been transplanted to the Reedley Opera House in a River City Theatre Company production through July 28—Little Shop of Horrors.

He has had his language censored, happy endings added to tragedies, plays turned into musicals (“Maria-a-a-a! I just met a girl named Maria-a-a-a!”), gender roles switched, and translated into Klingon.
Sugar is swee-ee-eet. The 1972 musical, based on Billy Wilder’s 1959 movie Some Like It Hot, based on Fanfare of Love (a 1935 French film), is singing, dancing, and laughing its way into the hearts of audiences in a Good Company Players production at Roger Rocka’s Dinner Theater through July 14.
Trying to come up with a theme for the Great Food Search isn’t always easy. After last month’s column, I had come up with an idea I wanted to try: vegeterranean—vegan and vegetarian food at Mediterranean restaurants. But then, I found a new restaurant in Sanger that is Mediterranean. . . but Oh! That wonderful meat!

Hustle on down to the Ice House Theater in Visalia where the Visalia Players present the stage version of the 1996 Disney animated musical film. You’ll like it (I’ve got a hunch.).
The loons are back on Olive Avenue. You can hear them inside the Good Company Players’ 2nd Space Theatre in On Golden Pond through June 9.
