In 1922, in Hanford, the Chinese School was dedicated. This school built by the Chinese community for its own was the first of its kind in America. Placed in the cornerstone of the school was a time capsule that contained:
“The stage is alive with The Sound of Music.”
That’s right! The songs of Rodgers & Hammerstein return to Roger Rocka’s Dinner Theater in a Good Company Players production of The Sound of Music through September 15.
It was born in 1960 as a quicky Roger Corman film shot mostly in two days, but it grew. It sprouted off-off-Broadway as a musical in 1982, then propagated Off-Broadway later that year, eventually crawling to Broadway. A film of the musical blossomed in 1986. It has grown all over the world, and has been transplanted to the Reedley Opera House in a River City Theatre Company production through July 28—Little Shop of Horrors.

Children's Musical Theaterworks is thrilled to present the hit musical Mean Girls, based on Tina Fey's 2004 film, at the Fresno Memorial Auditorium in Downtown Fresno from July 12-21. This highly-anticipated production promises to bring the audience into the drama-filled world of high school, complete with teenage antics, cliques, and gossip.

William Shakespeare (1564-1616), playwright, poet, actor. The Bard of Stratford-on-Avon. People have been interpreting and re-interpreting his works for more than 400 years. He has had his language censored, happy endings added to tragedies, plays turned into musicals (“Maria-a-a-a! I just met a girl named Maria-a-a-a!”), gender roles switched, and translated into Klingon.
Every year during Pride month we make a special effort to profile local LGBTQ+ members of the arts community. This year is something a bit different and extra special as we are interviewing a pair of local actors/directors who also happen to be a couple-- Claudio Laso and Chris Ortiz-Belcher.
