Fleur, which means flower in French, is no shrinking violet. Erica Cerny, with Greater NY/NJ Scottie Rescue, says she is a bouncy, active puppy.

At about eight months, Fleur loves to play with toys or other dogs. However, she is a bit rough in her play so the other dogs at her rescue home are a bit leery of her despite her diminutive size of just over 12 pounds.

Fleur was found on the street, and Erica thinks she may have been dumped. She was taken in by a shelter. The people at the shelter pegged Fleur as a Westie given her small size and white coat so they called Erica who had taken a Westie from that shelter previously.

She is afraid of people until she has a chance to get to know them. Then she will warm up and approach. Clearly, she has not had any socialization. Fleur’s foster mom, Judy, is working on house training her as well as getting her used to people. She does well with other dogs, despite her rough play, but it is unknown how she would be with cats. However, unlike most terriers, she does not seem to have a strong prey drive.

Although Fleur looks like a Westie, a DNA test by the rescue shows no Westie. She is 50 percent miniature Schnauzer as well as lesser parts of miniature Poodle, American Eskimo Dog, and Havanese. Fleur is up to date on her vaccines and will be spayed by the rescue before being put up for adoption. However, her spay appointment is coming up so the rescue will consider adoption applications.

Fleur needs a forever home with an experienced, patient dog person as Fleur still needs work on housebreaking as well as other training. She needs a home with another dog, young enough to play with Fleur and put up with her active puppy personality. She would not do well with young children, but older kids who know how to treat a dog would be okay.

Fleur is crate-trained, but she would not do well without someone at home with her at least part of the day. A retired person or couple, who are relatively active, would be a good fit. Also, someone who works at home or works part-time would also be a good situation for this active puppy. Although Fleur is not a Westie, she does need regular grooming.
