Take a Chance on Me

Allie, a three-and-a-half year old Scottie, was turned back to her breeder when the owner lost his wife and had to move in with his daughter. The daughter already had dogs so there was no room for Allie.

Allie had one of her rear legs amputated due to an accident when she was a puppy. However, she gets along very well. If she can’t do something the other dogs do, she finds a work around. She loves short walks and enjoys running around in the yard. The breeder agreed to take her, even though she was not Allie’s original breeder, because she had a relationship with Scottish Terrier Club of Greater NY Rescue. So, once she had Allie, she called Erica from the rescue to take her.

Allie

Already spayed, Allie has no health problems. The rescue will have her groomed, which she appears not to have had in a long time as can be seen in the before and after pictures. Also, because she came without vet records, she will go to the vet for a check-up and updates on her vaccines. Then, she will be ready to look for her forever home.

Erica says Allie is a very easy, friendly girl. She has a sweet temperament and is good with other dogs and even cats. The breeder bathed and groomed her, and told Erica she was very good through it all.
Allie would like a forever home with another dog to play with as she is used to being with other dogs.

However, the other dog should be relatively gentle so she doesn’t hurt or overwhelm Allie. She would like a fenced-in yard because she had that at the foster’s home, though that’s not an absolute requirement. She enjoys fairly short walks and loves playing with toys and other dogs.

Two absolute requirements are no swimming pool, and she must not be left alone in the yard. Remember, Allie is handicapped and could be easy prey for attackers. A home with older kids would suit Allie. If she is an only dog, she would enjoy play dates and walks with a neighborhood dog. She also might enjoy a dog park, though care would be needed to avoid big, bouncy dogs that could knock her down. In short, Allie is a loving, friendly dog who does not know she is different. She would be a great addition for the right person or family.

Author’s Note: I have a cat with three legs and one eye. Like Allie, he doesn’t know he’s different, and he has taught me a lot about overcoming life’s obstacles. He’s an absolute joy. So, don’t be afraid to take a chance on Allie, even with her handicap.
