Jessica was rescued by Greater New York/New Jersey Scottie Rescue from a New York City shelter. The rescue was just in time as Jessica had been put on the euthanasia list. The shelter had determined that she was a biter.

Nevertheless, the rescue, thinking she might just be acting out in fear at the busy, noisy shelter, decided to take a chance on the frightened Scottie girl. Jessica did well in foster care. It seemed that once she got to know and trust someone, the biting disappeared. The rescue of Greater New York/New Jersey then found what they thought would be Jessica’s forever home. For eight years, this Scottie girl lived a happy life. Then, her owner died. Since no one in the family could or would take her, she was returned to rescue.

Happily, a young man applied to adopt Jessica. He was told about her trust issues and biting, but he was not deterred. The new owner lived alone, but his brother visited often. Jessica grew to love both men, and they loved her. Once again, she seemed to have found her forever home where she was happy and loved.

Sadly, history repeated itself and Jessica’s beloved owner died. His brother and girlfriend had cats so they were unable to take in Jessica. So, back once again to rescue. She was returned to her original foster home and, after a few days, seemed to remember her foster mom and settled in. That she adapted so quickly back in foster care is a tribute to the love and care of her late owner.

The rescue guesses that Jessica at this point is about fourteen. However, she looks and acts more like a younger dog. She has no health issues except some dry eye.

A good home for Jessica would be one with an experienced Scottie owner who would give her the time and space to adapt. She needs patience and to be allowed to find her own way. Jessica tolerates other dogs but is a bit of a loner. She would like a person who would have time for her.

Jessica does not necessarily need a fenced-in yard as long as her person will take her on regular walks. She also does not need someone at home all day.

At the foster home, Jessica often slept with her foster mom and, if given time, the new adopter will have a loving companion.
