The San Joaquin Valley is very rich in great theatre all year long and we at KRL enjoy covering it and sharing our finds with our readers. As part of our 5th anniversary celebration, it seemed a perfect time to highlight some of the great shows coming to the Valley this summer! The wonderful memories they bring of Mel Brooks’ great movie, Young Frankenstein. After the success of the Broadway musical version of The Producers, it was almost natural for Brooks to adapt his homage to classic horror movies for the stage.
If you go see the Raisin' Cain Players production of Mary Poppins at the Selma Arts Center (and you should), and you are old enough to remember the movie of the same title (like me), be prepared for a great and nostalgic ride, because this is a production that has so many wonderful elements, it's hard to pick just a few to share in a review of this length.
As the leaves become a swirl of dappled gold and fiery red, and as the temperature (eventually) drops, Selma’s Raisin Cain Players welcome October with a tale of the Salem Witch Trials, the Selma Underground Production of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible.
If you’re looking for Some Enchanted Evening, go to the Selma Arts Center for South Pacific, that wonderful old Rodgers and Hammerstein musical.
Yes, the hills are alive with The Sound of Music, but now the sounds are being made by the Raisin’ Cain Players in the just-opened Selma Arts Center, 1935 High St.
The new Selma Arts Center opens Saturday, September 14 with a production by the Raisin' Cain Players of The Sound of Music. There is a gala grand opening showing on September 14 that will help to fund additional improvements for the Arts Center.
