In book 8 of the Cook-Off Mystery series, it seems that strife and cold weather have come to the town of Augustin, Connecticut in the way of an age-old argument about progress versus tradition. As with all Sally Oliveri books, there is a new cooking contest for Sally to participate in when she isn’t solving the mystery, and wonderful recipes are shared at the conclusion of the mystery.

By way of introduction, I am the author of Serving Up Spite, book eight in my cooking competition, cozy, murder mystery series. I live in a quaint town on the coast of Connecticut. I like to think my town is keeping step with the times. In fact, we are relatively modern here. The intersections have talking pedestrian crossing detectors. Our police force has one electric vehicle. On the other hand, our most congested traffic spot has an archaic four-way stop sign that holds up traffic for an unbearable amount of time. Baby steps.

As the holiday season approaches, Maine’s frequent cooking competition champion Sherry Oliveri is perfecting her snazzy sweet potato panzanella recipe. First though, she has the honor of being a judge for the local newspaper’s Story for Glory Cookie Bake-off. Bakers are challenged to present compelling origin stories for their recipes that match the tastiness of their creations. While Sherry’s own baking skills are admittedly lacking, her collection of other cook-off wins more than qualifies her to judge cookies as well as the accompanying heart-warming tales.
