Kings River Life caught up with Fresno rock band The Crxssing (including lead vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Tad Kent, bassist/backup vocalist Damon Paraguas, and drummer/backup vocalist Jesus Acevedo) to talk all things music, ahead of the release of their full-length album True North later this year.
The South Valley’s Ryan Dean and the Bricktops with vocalist/guitarist Ryan Dean, guitarist John Bell, bassist Mario Teixeira, and drummer Matt Hopson, are kicking off the New Year with their first Fresno show tonight (January 16) at Audie’s Olympic. Kings River Life caught up with Ryan Dean on the eve of the Audiepalooza 2016 All Star Western to discuss the band’s origins and their bright future ahead.
Shakespeare would have said “parting is such sweet sorrow,” but for the members of Fresno metal band Your Hero is a Villain, that is not the case.
They plan to keep in touch.
You could say that music is in his blood.
“I’ve always been around music,” says Geoff Thurman, lead vocalist and guitarist of Fresno’s The Geoff Thurman Band. “My father had a deep bass voice and my sisters were singers and piano students as children. I started singing when I was five years old.”
Who knew that meeting at a Limp Bizkit audition ten years ago would lead to the eventual formation of Fresno new wave/pop band Brother Luke and the Comrades?
If you search the term “spotlight theory” online, you’ll find that not only is it the name of Fresno’s alternative rock duo, but that it’s an actual theory as well.
When a love of music is born in childhood, it has the tendency to stick around. And the members of Fresno’s alternative band Anchor City know a thing or two about this.
“Yeah, but what kind of music do you play?” Blake Jones has been fielding that question for quite a while.
So much so, in fact, that the songwriter-vocalist-guitarist of Fresno’s Blake Jones and the Trike Shop penned a song with that particular question as its title.
Like a magician conjuring from the dark depths of a top hat, so too came the name of Fresno metal band, Spirit Descending, but instead of a white rabbit or a levitating deck of cards, the hands of Fate pulled out the evolution of a sound five years in the making.
Guy Beard may be the front-man for Guy Beard and the Lunch Wagon Romeos, but there actually is no Guy Beard. “He’s more of an archetype,” says Ron Morse, lead vocalist for Fresno’s rockabilly band of four. “He’s the invisible fifth member of the band.” But it’s the group’s four corporeal members (drummer John Shafer, Scats on the Sly bassist Martin Hansen, keyboardist-guitarist-vocalist Leland Vanderpoel, and Morse, who also plays guitar) who make up the real heart and soul of the Lunch Wagon Romeos. “We’ve been jamming together as the Romeos for about two years now,” Morse says. “Our first gig was my 50th birthday party, and about a week later, we played Tokyo Garden.”
