She travels on cruise ships and scenic trains, jamming all hours of the day. He’s hauled his guitar around the world on his back, entertaining locals and fellow travelers. She’s lain awake in a converted monastery in Spain, constructing a song in her head about jet lag and moonlight. Together they are Highway 41, the local folk band.

Scats on the Sly: In the Swing of Things

If you’ve ever been to Fresno’s Rogue Festival or attended Jazz @ the Library, you might be familiar with the jazzy swing sound of Fresno band Scats on the Sly.
This four-member band of cool cats, comprised of vocalist Mallory Moad, bassist Martin Hansen, guitarist Mike Newton and violinist Sue Beevers, has been making music together for almost eight years.

Gemeni: A California Band With a Buffy Connection

Are you looking for some fresh blood in the music industry? Look no further than twin sisters, Lisa and Gina Gomez, who make up the band known as Gemeni. Performing at local talent shows and country fairs since the age of five, in their home state of Florida the sisters have also been submersed in musical theater, performing in nine musicals and one opera and also went on to make an appearance on America's Next Great Star. Then, in July 2012, the girls packed their bags and said goodbye to Florida to make a new life for themselves in sunny Los Angeles, California.

Local Band Poor Man’s Poison Wins Big!

Recently Hanford band Poor Mans Poisons won the title of best new act in country music at the prestigious Texaco Country Showdown in Nashville, Tennessee with a prize of $100,000. They were chosen as the best of five finalists by an accomplished panel of judges. Past participants in this contest include superstars Garth Brooks, Brad Paisley, and Martina McBride.

My only reaction to finally being able to listen to Garbage’s Not Your Kind of People, announced late last year, is FINALLY! Garbage is back, baby, and they are in perfect form. After a seven year break from the band, Shirley Manson, Butch Vig, Duke Erickson and Steve Marker reformed to break out on their own, Trent Reznor style, forming their own label, releasing their album on their own terms, and setting their own tour schedule.
