One of the wonderful things that the San Joaquin Valley has to offer is fresh fruit and vegetables--the City of Reedley is actually known as The World’s Fruit Basket. One way to obtain some of that delicious produce is from fruit stands in the area. Recently, we chatted with Reedley farmer and the operator of one of these stands, Liset Garcia, from Sweet Girl Farms. Sweet Girl Farms is a family business.
Ah, springtime! In California’s Central Valley, as in many parts of the country, the months of spring are a welcome respite from the colder winter months. Actually, in the Central Valley it’s something of a bittersweet time because our spring lasts–if we’re lucky–a month.
In 1953 my Dad was in the money and itching to buy a newer car, or at least one more suitable for a successful educator than the 1947 Plymouth he was currently driving. Buick was his make of choice, and one Saturday he drove around the block where Jackson’s Buick lot was at least three times. On the used car lot sat a gun metal grey Super Four-Door with a cream top. It was just two years old and it looked brand new.
