Fog City is the perfect noir mystery with a few extra twists and turns. After the Great War (WWI), it is set in San Francisco. You can picture the classic black and white presentation of this story as you eagerly turn the pages. Maggie Laurent is the typical girl next door right down to the Irish heritage with a good Catholic upbringing.
The honeymoon is over, but the romance remains in Anastasia Pollack’s latest outing in the Anastasia Pollack Crafting mystery series. Pollack is the crafts editor for American Woman, a magazine with enough internal politics to keep one guessing who’s in charge.
I walked into the jewelry store and looked around. I was the only customer. An older man, who I took to be the manager, was arranging watches in the wall case. A young woman standing behind the counter looked up at me. So far, so good, I thought, although I realized I hadn't gotten very far yet.

Apparently, I didn’t get the author memo about crafting your protagonist in the image of someone other than yourself. Well, I did get the memo, just several years after I’d written two novels with Dr. Jake Bendel leading the charge.
KRL is taking a vacation this weekend! I still have a lot of writing I need to do for some upcoming online events for my new book, One of You, I decided it was best to take another week off from my KRL duties! I also have a lot of KRL catching up to do as well including some website maintenance. There was a midweek guest post this past Wednesday and there will likely be another one this week, and there will be one here this coming week and a new issue will be back next weekend!
When it comes to mystery fiction, I’ve never been a fast writer. It used to take me a year to finish a novel, and I got that down to nine months (the parallel to childbirth is not lost on me). I could use the excuse that I also have a career that pays the bills. Like my character, Claudia Rose, I work as an independent forensic document examiner. Which means that unless I’m scheduled to testify in court or at a deposition—dates that often change because court is like making a movie, lots of ‘hurry up and wait’—I can pretty much make my own schedule.

We don’t review a lot of non-fiction here at KRL, but when author Teresa Peschel reached out to me about her new book Agatha Christie, She Watched, it not only sounded like a lot of fun, but also something that KRL’s readers would be interested in, so here we are! I had the pleasure of also interviewing Teresa about the book and I don’t want to give too much away from the interview, so this will be a bit of a different review.
