November is National Family Caregivers Month, a time to recognize the 42 million Americans who help care for aging parents, spouses and other loved ones. At first glance, those numbers may appear staggering, but we all know someone who is providing care for an aging parent, relative, or friend. Any of us can become a caregiver in the blink of an eye. One minute your mom is walking, and the next you receive the call that she’s fallen and broken a hip. Or, you notice that your spouse or parent is forgetting more than they’re remembering. Life changes and roles change quickly as well.

New Library Brings Greater Access to Residents

Books are the magic that can effortlessly transport us to places near, far and in between.
Step through the doors of the newest branch of the Fresno County Public Library, and you’ll be greeted by the cool air, accented with the sites and sensations that only books can bring. Books can transport you to places where you can live, dream and discover the wonder within the words. Located in northwest Fresno at Teague Elementary School, this recently opened branch of the Fresno County Public Library provides a world of fun, fiction, information, and technology, all at your fingertips.

Maddie Cakes Cupcake Bakery

Meet Madeline Travis, the ‘real’ Maddie behind the infamous Cupcake Bakery, Maddie Cakes. This homegrown, one-of-its-kind bakery, located in northwest Fresno, has had orders placed for their custom cupcakes and cakes, from as far away as Italy. Their customers explain that there’s simply no substitute for a Maddie cake. Maddie Cakes has been showcased from Washington, D.C to Las Vegas to Yosemite to Los Angeles and back again. It takes just one look at these creative cupcakes and other bakery items, such as their uniquely customized cakes and cookies, to see why customers from across the globe, call on Maddie and her staff to make their special occasion memorable and delicious!

Library For London Project

There is simply no better way to describe Robert Isquierdo, Jr. and the Ambassadors for the Library for London Project, than as that small group of thoughtful, committed citizens who really are going to change the world. In fact, they’ve already begun! Their first project of change is underway in a big way in the tiny community of London, California.
