I first came to the North, to Alaska, in 2013. I was there, ostensibly, to follow stories of climate change and oil, but really I was there because I was lured by the myth. I had grown up on Jack London and Farley Mowat; I had fleshed it out with Into the Wild and bluegrass and wildlife documentaries.

The Reedley High School Students for Peace Club is much more than your average club on campus. This is a group of young and bright individuals with an array of interests, from all grade levels, who share one common goal: how can peace be achieved?
Earlier this year I learned about a program at Reedley College called NextUp-it is a program that helps support foster youth at community colleges. So I took some time to chat with Aaren Cobb, Ed.D, NextUp Counselor/Coordinator at Reedley College, to learn more about what this program does.
Fresno Interdenominational Refugee Ministries (FIRM) continues serving the community in Fresno for almost its twenty-fourth year. Throughout over two decades, people from all over the world have come through their doors seeking support, love, and hope. Sarah Thompson will be leading a Nonviolent Action Workshop this Friday, November 3 from 6:30-9 p.m. at the Reedley Peace Center, 1208 L Street in Reedley, and at Fresno Pacific University on November 4 at North Hall on the campus from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Over the last five years Sarah has trained people of faith and moral courage in nonviolent direct action preparation. Most recently she was the Executive Director of Christian Peacemaker Teams.
