Devil Said Bang by Richard Kadrey: Book Review/Interview/Giveaway

by Jesus Ibarra

James Stark returns in Devil Said Bang, picking up roughly three months after the events of Aloha From Hell. Stark has had his hands full trying to stay alive and trying to make his way back to LA after being stuck as the reigning Lucifer of Hell. But LA isn’t as Stark left it, his angelic half is running loose, something is eating all the ghosts, and some of the most powerful magic wielding people are planning something big.

The Bourne Legacy: Movie Review

by Jesus Ibarra

The Bourne Legacy is the fourth entry into the Bourne film series starring Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz and aiming to continue the series without the titular Jason Bourne played by Matt Damon in the last three movies. I didn’t envy the makers of this film because they had to come up with a story that was compelling enough to tell without Matt Damon in the lead role, after a successful trilogy. That said, you didn’t have to watch the first three movies in the series because the first half of this movie, basically gives you the gist of what happened.

Total Recall: Movie Review

by Jesus Ibarra

Total Recall, starring Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel, hit theaters last weekend adapting itself more from Philip K. Dick's short story than the original movie made in 1990 starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Like the original, Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell) is disenchanted with his life living as an assemblyman for a synthetic robot police force in another country across the globe. His wife Laurie (Kate Beckinsale) urges him to keep calm that everything is as it seems.

The Dark Knight Rises: Movie Review

by Jesus Ibarra

It is the year of the comic book movie, and The Dark Knight Rises marks the last most anticipated comic book movie of the year following Marvel's the Avengers, and Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man. The Dark Knight Rises is also the anticipated finale of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy which sought to give Bruce Wayne and Batman a proper sendoff. This review will be a bit short because revealing anything more might constitute some spoilers.

Grave Memory by Kalayna Price: Urban Fantasy Book Review/Giveaway

by Jesus Ibarra

Alex Craft returns in Kalayna Price’s third novel, Grave Memory, searching for the reason why people are committing suicide. More importantly, she is looking for answers as to why their shades don’t remember days leading up to the suicide. Alex is a Grave Witch so she can summon their shades, the last memories of dead people, talk to ghosts and soul collectors, and use her grave magic as a weapon. Alex is also dealing with the effects of her new powers that go beyond grave magic, and having Death pop into her life once again after several weeks of not being around.

Garbage Not Your Kind of People: CD Review

by Jesus Ibarra

My only reaction to finally being able to listen to Garbage’s Not Your Kind of People, announced late last year, is FINALLY! Garbage is back, baby, and they are in perfect form. After a seven year break from the band, Shirley Manson, Butch Vig, Duke Erickson and Steve Marker reformed to break out on their own, Trent Reznor style, forming their own label, releasing their album on their own terms, and setting their own tour schedule.

Brave: Movie Review

by Jesus Ibarra

Pixar’s latest animated film stars hopefully a new Disney princess, Merida. Set in Scotland during the 10th century, the princess defies the old age custom of marrying the first-born son of the clan chiefs under her father’s rule by competing for her own hand to avoid getting married. All this much to the chagrin of her mother, the Queen Elinor, who has been preparing her, her entire life as a princess.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter: Movie Review

by Jesus Ibarra

What if arguably one of our best Presidents turned out to be a vampire hunter? Well now we know what that would look like in the film adaptation of the book by the same name. Benjamin Walker has the unfortunate task of selling Lincoln as not only a brilliant passionate legal mind but also a strong kickass vampire hunter, and I have to say he pulled it off.

Prometheus: Movie Review

by Jesus Ibarra

Ridley Scott’s much awaited return to the sci-fi genre sought to answer where we come from in the aptly named Prometheus, which is also the name of the spaceship in the movie. What started out as a prequel to the beloved 1979 film Alien starring Sigourney Weaver, became its own stand-alone film that takes place roughly thirty years before the events of Alien, and only set in the same universe.
