As I am among those looking forward to the upcoming film simply called Jack Reacher [or not, in view of the controversy surrounding the fact that Tom Cruise will play the lead], I thought I’d go back to the book, initially published in 2005 and now with a new “Movie Tie-In Edition,” before seeing the film. Love INC stands for Love In the Name of Christ and we serve Reedley, Orange Cove, and the mountain communities–the reach of Kings Canyon Unified School District. We were closed for about six months and reopened in June of this year. The Clearinghouse is the core of all we do–people with difficult life circumstances can call and our volunteers gather their stories and information. We then decide how we can best serve them and assist them in getting out of those circumstances with the use of local churches, agencies, our own services (GAP ministries), and/or volunteers.

While the successfulness of their heroes may vary, all the stories share a noir tone and enough twists and turns to surprise the canniest of mystery readers.

“So my kid says, ‘I don’t think there is any Santa Claus.’” Detective Sergeant Stan Gawecki ate the last of his cruller and took another sip of coffee from the paper cup.
“Just buy something. Do you have to make everything such a drama?” His wife’s voice, after ten minutes, no, make that twenty-three solid years of lecturing, grated on Timothy’s nerves. He held his head and leaned against the Dillard’s necktie counter in Cordova, Tennessee. It was the Friday after Thanksgiving and the store was packed with bargain-hunting shoppers.
This weekend Kuppajoe in Fresno celebrates 15 years in business, so it seemed a perfect time to sit down and chat with Clayton Miears, who handles all of their bookings, to see what they have planned to celebrate and learn a little more about them.
