The Fresno Monsters hosted the Wenatchee Wild this past weekend at Selland Arena.
On Friday night the Monsters played a very good game only to fall in a shootout to the 1st place Wild 3-2. Kyle Sucher and Trevor Husch scored goals for Fresno. James Mathias was named the games 3rd star for his high-energy play and big hits.
At seventy-nine years old, it was now or never, and I couldn’t let never happen. No, siree. The kids must never know. They’d be shocked and wonder about me for all eternity. Protecting them had come first. Now though, I had to protect myself. I’d planned and hoped that tonight’s task would resolve my problem.
I was ten years old. That was a long time ago, before television and all of the electronic gimmickry that permeate today’s world. We, my younger brother, Timmy and I, got our entertainment by listening to the radio, usually with the lights out as Inner Sanctum and some of the old, classic radio programs scared us out of our wits. Cool! There was nothing like a good scary radio program in the dark to get one’s creative juices flowing. Some of the best, deliciously awful pranks I pulled on Timmy were inspired while listening to the radio.

I’ve been feeling a little bah humbug about Christmas this year. I think the days have just gotten away from me. I haven’t done much to prepare and finances are never what I had hoped they would be. I was grocery shopping the other day and almost panicked when I realized carols were playing and there were only 15 days until Christmas. I called my husband and said “What’s wrong with me? I just can’t get into the Christmas spirit.”
What better way to spend the holidays then with one of my favorite mystery cozy authors Cleo Coyle (which is actually the husband and wife duo of Alice Alfonsi and Marc Cerasini). I absolutely love their Coffeehouse mysteries featuring the manager of the Village Blend in New York, Clare Cosi. One of my favorite places to hang out is a coffee house--so when I heard there was a mystery series set in one, I couldn't resist and they never disappoint.
December marks the holiday season. It is a time for family get togethers, tree decorations, baked goods, gift exchanges, and evergreen and mistletoe. While my family does partake in all of these things, there is one tradition that we have which is particularly tasty, satisfying, and communal. That tradition is dim sum.
My partner and I left the warmth of our unmarked car and trudged up the snow-covered walk to the porch of a three-bedroom brick ranch in an upper-middle class neighborhood. Smoke drifted from the home’s chimney, suggesting the warmth that awaited us. We couldn’t wait to get next to the fire and thaw the winter chill from our bones.
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and by that I mean it's slightly cooler than normal and they're playing Christmas remixes on the radio all the time. I've always wanted a white holiday season. Looks like that wish will never come true...
