Ann Cleeves Trifecta VERA, Shetland, & The Long Call on BritBox Streaming

by Kathleen Costa

BritBox offers many programs that are actually based on novels which has sparked my interest in engaging with the author’s original vision of the characters, the setting, and the plot. From Robert Thorogood’s Death in Paradise to James Herriot’s All Creatures Great and Small from Ellis Peter’s Cadfael Mysteries to Georges Simenon’s Maigret from Nicholas Rhea’s Constable series (Heartbeat) and of course, not to mention all things Agatha Christie to Shakespeare, BritBox brings to the screen an excellent cast, beautiful settings, and stories that have you coming back for more…more is checking out the books! One author whose work is iconic in any form is Ann Cleeves.

AcornTV Streaming Christmas: Kissing Christmas Goodbye & More

by Kathleen Costa

Set out the tea and mince pies and have yourself a Happy Christmas courtesy of AcornTV! Many new productions are being aired since they have been diligent in following set Covid protocols, so it has been exciting to have favorites and new programs popping up from the new seasons of Vera and Midsomer Murders to brand new treats like The Long Call and Dalgliesh.

Acorn Streaming: Police Drama Gems Suspects & The Silence

by Kathleen Costa

AcornTV is one of my favorite go-to entertainment sites, and it’s not just for avid Anglophiles. It has a reasonable membership fee (monthly $5.99 or an annual special $59.99) in comparison to other options available, and offers hours and hours of engaging dramas (Single-Handed), laugh-out-loud comedies (Boomers), clever mysteries (Agatha Raisin), and informative documentaries (Adrian Dunbar’s Coastal Ireland) from all over the British Commonwealth.

Hinterland & One Lane Bridge On AcornTV Streaming

by Kathleen Costa

AcornTV was my first streaming experience…my gateway entertainment, so to speak. I tested a few free trials, but this membership offered me everything I could want as an incurable Anglophile. With access to several favorites, often iconic, British productions and a vast number of new-to-me programs I thought I’d never be able to enjoy short of traveling to London, I was in Heaven.

AcornTV Streaming A Pair of Aces! Whitstable Pearl & Ms. Fisher’s Modern Murder Mystery

by Kathleen Costa

AcornTV is a popular streaming option and one for which I’ve had a membership for several years: $5.99 monthly or get a deal with the annual $59.99 fee. My personal experience has been without complaint, and whether I’m binging an old favorite, enjoying a current season, or checking out a new-to-me production, I totally enjoy the quality of the audio and video and the convenience to view anywhere on any of my devices with my AcornTV app. Slowly, programs that had new seasons contracted before the pandemic are returning to filming with premiers set throughout the summer and into the fall. I am thrilled about two of AcornTV Originals ready to go: the new Whitstable Pearl, and season two of Ms. Fisher’s Modern Murder Mystery. Yeah, AcornTV!

A Pair from BritBox Death in Paradise & New Tricks

by Kathleen Costa

BritBox is an extraordinary streaming option for Anglophiles, and one of which I have been a member for a reasonable fee that you can choose to make monthly ($6.99) or annually ($69.99) for a discount. For several years I’ve enjoyed their extensive library, updated regularly, with access to decades-old favorites or “fresh out of lockdown” TV shows, mini series, and movies to meet my every mood: comedies, dramas, mysteries, or nail-biting police procedurals.

AcornTV Trio: Murdoch Mysteries, The Brokenwood Mysteries, & Midsomer Murders

by Kathleen Costa

The pandemic has directly effected our lives in many ways and we have tried desperately to find ways to keep ourselves engaged or distracted. We’re used to reruns, and in many cases don’t mind binging our favorite sit-com and movie series, but there’s On Demand, Netflix, Pay-Per-View, and a wide selection of streaming services for reasonable to “Ouch!” fees. For several years now, my “reasonable” membership in two streaming services has provided this Anglophile access to a wide variety of UK television shows and movies, some new and some longtime favorites.
