The frantic demand was punctuated by the sound of sirens, whizzing of firetrucks, and billowing of smoke from the fire engulfing the guard gate and gatehouse leading to Hemingway Hills golf course. Close friend of Marty’s, Jody Emerson, is desperate for the G.O.L.D. girls to look further into the fire that seems to be covering up a theft. She worries her husband Ralph and some co-workers might be blamed…injured guard, missing weapons, and property damage.

New Arcadia, Max Marley’s most prodigious project, is complete, and Georgie and her husband Jack have been invited (more like commanded) to its soft opening with an all-expense paid, deluxe, pet-friendly stay. They had planned to spend their first anniversary on a beach in Cancun, but they agreed to stop off at New Arcadia first to support, if not placate, their boss. Until…BOOM! What felt like an earthquake, shaking and shimmying, turned out to be two massive explosions.

It’s MO fun, MO food, MO murder? Muriel Bright is at her best showcasing pancetta-wrapped peach slices (recipe included) for a studio filled with eager fans of her cooking show and bantering with her friend and co-host Ophelia Cheval, but a burned tongue, minor electric shock, and an almost Jerry Springer-type confrontation forces her to “time stretch” and defuse the situation with a few Kitchen Witches hidden under chairs.

When Max barks, Georgie listens, but this time it’s a more pleasant command. She’s expected to step in as a PR substitute and attend a cocktail party in the historic canal district of Venice, California. The evening will showcase guest of honor and jazz singer Kay Garland accented with excellent food with a “Big Easy” flare.

Aunt Agnes Lugo, a well-respected member of the local tribal community, is convinced that the man convicted of the murder of her nephew, Sacramento Lugo, is innocent. The young man’s body was found stabbed in an isolated area of tribal land, but Jessica was suspicious of the immediate arrest and quick conviction of the victim’s friend, seventeen-year-old Louie Jacobs.

Lillian Callahan, nicknamed “Calla Lily” by her Auntie Lettie, has reinvented her life post-soap opera stardom. She inherited her Aunt Lettie’s Napa Wine Country estate along with the Calla Lily Vineyard and Winery where she had spent much of her childhood. Several friends from her soap opera days have joined her as quasi-permanent residents in the large house her aunt turned into a B&B, assisted in revitalizing the on-site theater The Calla Lily Playhouse, opened with a parody of the soap opera to rave reviews, and as “Lily’s Diva Posse,” now aptly named “Calla Lily Murder Club,” give her all the back up she needs.

“PULL HARDER!” A massive storm. Flooding basement. Drainage pipe plugged. Covered in mud. Startled by an electric storm that would rival any Fourth of July firework display. Lily is desperately trying to pull out vines and trash that have accumulated around the drainage pipe and threatening damage to the outbuilding she turned into a local theater.

Curiosity has said to have “killed the cat,” so, why not take a dog with you! Miriam and her Dalmatian Domino (case-in-point for Burke’s cleverness) goes exploring on the dunes, which aren’t really dunes, to see if she can locate the hidden grave of Allen Rogow, ex-husband of current client of the G.O.L.D team Judith Rogow.

A Body on Fitzgerald’s Bluff was released in late 2018 as the first book in Anna Celeste Burke’s new series Seaview Cottages Cozy Mystery, and I was very eager to read it. She employed her signature writing style by grabbing my attention right off with lots of excitement as Miriam and her Dalmatian Domino, along with the Seaview Cottages Walking Club, discover a dead body on the bluff sending panic throughout the community.

Anna Celeste Burke is excellent at penning engaging cozy mysteries: clever plot lines, realistic characters, a bit of nail-biting, satisfying solutions. All of her series highlight the wonders of California like a peripheral character from the Coachella Valley to the Central Coast, then from the OC to the American Rivera just north of Santa Barbara to California’s wine country in and around Calistoga.

Connecting with authors beyond reading and reviewing their books is the best part of my own adventure. I learn about who they are, where they came from, connections to their writing, and even some personal similarities. It was a delight to e-meet Anna Celeste Burke, USA Today’s Best Selling Author and the creativity behind a trifecta of popular and entertaining cozy series: Jessica Huntington Mystery, Corsario Cove Cozy Mystery, and Georgia Shaw Mystery.
