In the past, food trucks would prowl the streets singly, setting up for a lunch break or late-night snacks. During the pandemic era, they banded together with Mike Osegueda in the Valley, under the banner of Fresno Street Eats. Once more, The Great Food Search risks life and stomach to explore the food trucks of Fresno Street Eats.

Brickology Pizza—You’ve had mobile pizza delivery, but have you ever had a mobile pizzeria? It looks like your everyday food truck until you look through one of the windows and see a wide stack of pizza ovens. I tracked this truck down at Sanger High School. In 20-25 minutes you get a hot, oven-fresh round of crisp, thin dough with red sauce and your choice of toppings (for us—sausage, pepperoni, and mushroom). The sauce had a friendly kick to it, which was a surprise. The 14-inch size suited our family of three, with leftovers for midnight snacking. Personal size pizzas are available, too. Brickology has chicken wings for a side, but we chose Zucchini Sticks, lightly breaded, soft and delicious, accompanied by a robust Ranch Dipping Sauce. Brickology is a solid choice.

Grobak Sushi—It’s an Asian fusion on wheels! You want Japanese food? Here comes the sushi—crab, tuna, deep-fried shrimp (I ordered the California Roll, which had a delicate flavor), and the Gyoza (more delicate than potstickers, garlicy and sorting a finely-minced filling). For a Chinese component, I added an order of Eggrolls, crispy and fully packed. It was a pleasant surprise behind the Sierra Vista Mall in Clovis.

Sipz—This is going to sound strange, but I haven’t had anything from this vendor. My diabetic daughter had a low blood-sugar reaction while at the Sierra Vista edition of Fresno Street Eats in Clovis, and I needed to give her a sugar rush. Sipz was the closest place selling drinks, so I bought something with mango and another fruit juice (I don’t remember what the second flavor was, but I know it wasn’t pineapple, because she doesn’t like pineapple). It brought her around, and then she told me she doesn’t like mango. Tough. What I can tell you about Sipz is…they were patient to a frantic dad, and they managed to fill my order quickly. Thank you, Sipz.

Still Wingin’ It—I like chicken wings. I’m not necessarily a buffalo wings aficionado, but I do go for wings with a good sauce or coating. These were good wings, with a BBQ sauce that did not burn off my taste buds, for which I was thankful, because I could appreciate the fries included in the order. The fries were chunky, blocky, and soft to the bite. I wanted more, but I was forced to share. On top of that, I ordered Zucchini Slices that stayed warm and had a delectable crunch. It was Good Stuff at Sierra Vista.

Wetzel’s Pretzels—It’s a franchise, but a good one. The Pepperoni Twist is a mammoth cheese pretzel dotted with a half-dozen rounds of pepperoni, more spicy than I expected, but osogood in downtown Reedley!

The Verdict—Fresno Street Eats shows up in different locations at different times, and in different combinations. Oddly enough, my choice of the month is … Wetzel’s Pretzels!
