Little Buddy Jackson should really be called Lucky. He was thrown out of a moving car in the Austin, Texas, area, but, fortunately, a good Samaritan saw what happened, stopped, and picked up the little dog.
He was matted and dirty but obviously white so the good Samaritan thought he was a Westie. He contacted Lone Star Westie Rescue, more luck for this pup, and the rescue took him in.
Little Buddy was nervous at first and shied away from being picked up. It seemed obvious that he had probably been an outdoor dog and had not gotten a lot of human interaction. He is not completely house trained, and Elizabeth, his foster mom since July, is working on this. Over time, his sweet nature has become obvious. He sleeps in his crate overnight, and is now eager to come out in the morning, greet Elizabeth, and get his day started.
Elizabeth took him to the vet for vaccinations and a thorough check-up. Next was a bath and trim. The clean-up made it clear this little guy was not a Westie, but, with his longer legs and curly coat, Elizabeth thinks he is possibly a mix of poodle and terrier. The vet puts him at about ten years old.
With testing, the vet found his kidney levels to be high. However, this could be because of the stress of his life changes. He does drink a good amount of water, but that is lessening. Elizabeth will have his kidney values retested soon. Other than that, Buddy has no health problems and is not on any medicine.
As he has adjusted, Elizabeth says he has become very sweet and an easy, low key dog. He does get excited at meal time, but he has learned the routine, and waits for his bowl.
Buddy is not especially interested in toys, and he is not comfortable sitting in a lap or even on the sofa. Elizabeth says he does like to play gently with her hand.Buddy gets along with other dogs, and he walks well on a leash. When Elizabeth takes him for a walk, she has found that a harness works better for him than a collar.
Buddy is an easy-going, sweet boy looking for a forever home with a human or two who will love him and keep him happy and healthy.
