Near the end of last year, Anthony and Evelyn Reyna opened a new coffee shop in downtown Dinuba, CA called Brick & Stone. While coffee is great all year long, as the weather begins to cool off nothing sounds better than a great cup of coffee, so it seemed like the perfect time to learn more about the new kid in town. Recently we chatted with their manager, Mikayla Protzman.

KRL: Why open a coffee shop in Downtown Dinuba?

L to R: Mikayla Protzman, Evelyn Reyna, Anthony Reyna and their daughters

Mikayla: The heart behind opening a coffee shop in Downtown Dinuba was sparked by Anthony’s passion for Dinuba and to see downtown revitalized. We strive to create a sense of community within our shop where everyone feels welcomed and loved. We love our town and love that we get to serve the community through coffee!

KRL: Are they from Dinuba?

Mikayla: Anthony, the owner, is a Dinuba native.

KRL: Do any of you have a background in the coffee or food industry?

Mikayla: Anthony and Evelyn do not have a background in coffee, but I have worked in the coffee industry for 5 years. I have a huge passion for specialty coffee and strive for excellence in this area.

KRL: Why did you choose the name Brick and Stone?

Mikayla: The name of our shop was actually sparked by a conversation about what our heart was behind the shop. We knew we wanted to create community and love people. My mom felt [led] to look up every Bible verse that was Chapter 2 and Verse 20 in each book as our address is 220 S. L Street. She came across Ephesians 2:20 and felt it fit what we were going for. It says, “You’re no longer strangers or outsiders. You belong here, with as much right to the name Christian as anyone. God is building a home. He’s using us all-irrespective of how we got here-in what he is building. He used the apostles and prophets for the foundation. Now he’s using you, fitting you in brick by brick, stone by stone, with Christ Jesus as the cornerstone that holds all the parts together. We see it taking shape day after day-a holy temple built by God, all of us built into it, a temple in which God is quite at home.” Ephesians 2:20 (MSG)

KRL: What type of things do you serve? Is it just coffee?

Mikayla: We serve a variety of coffee drinks as well as teas, sodas, and lemonades. We strive to create excellent and creative beverages for our customers to enjoy!

KRL: Tell us about your craft sodas and energy drink?

Mikayla: We have several craft sodas on tap including Root Beer, Vanilla Cream Soda, and Black Cherry Tarragon. We also have an energy drink on tap that our customers can get creative with and add any of our many syrups to. Some customer favorites are Cotton Candy, Strawberry, and Watermelon.

KRL: Where do you get your coffee beans from?

Mikayla: We get our coffee beans from a local roaster out of Fresno, Valparaiso Coffee Roasters.

KRL: Where do you get your baked goods?

Mikayla: We get our baked goods from a few places. Some of our pastries are from a local bakery in Dinuba. Our scones are from Stevie’s Scones in Hanford. Our delicious cookies are from Modern Farmhouse Cookies also out of Hanford.

KRL: What makes Brick & Stone unique?

Mikayla: Brick & Stone is unique because of the atmosphere we have created here. We have a creative menu that is a bit different from your mainstream drinks. We also are the only specialty coffee shop in Dinuba.

KRL: What is your favorite coffee drink on your menu?

Mikayla: My personal favorite drink is a Cappuccino with oat milk. Our espresso is dialed in often throughout the day so that it tastes right every time.

KRL: Where can people find you online?

Mikayla: Our website is www.brickandstonecoffee.com and we are on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok!

KRL: Can people order online?

Mikayla: We have mobile ordering through our website. We also offer DoorDash for delivery.

KRL: Do you offer any outdoor seating?

Mikayla: We have a couple tables on our patio.

KRL: What was it like opening during a pandemic?

Mikayla: COVID did not affect us after opening our shop, but it did cause some delays in our building process. It took a long time to get all of the necessary things for opening a shop.

KRL: What are your future goals?

Mikayla: We would love to eventually maybe expand in order to have more cafe space and maybe even another location if that is what God has for us!

KRL: Anything you would like to add?

Mikayla: We are so grateful to get to serve our community each day. Come visit us and check it out. We love helping people find drinks and creating a space for them to abide in.

  1. We love Brick and Stone and we are so grateful to have a craft coffee shop in our small town. Good job to Mikayla and all of her team that makes it happen on a daily basis. I love that they are closed on Sundays too so they can have family time.
