Reedley Firefighter Daniel Lopez: Being there in a person’s time of need

In 2020, we are profiling members of the Reedley Fire Department. This week we are interviewing Daniel Lopez who is a Fire Engineer. Daniel grew up in Parlier but moved to Reedley in 2016. He attended school in Parlier and graduated from Parlier High School in 1996.

KRL: Are you full time or volunteer?

Daniel: We are Paid Call Firefighters.

KRL: When did you first know you wanted to be a firefighter and why?

Daniel: At a young age I always had an interest in First Responders (Police, Fire, EMS) I began by joining Parlier Police Explorers, next excelled in the Police Academy after graduation. We had many interactions with Parlier City Paid Call Fire Department, which gained my interest to do both (Police and Fire) at the same time.

KRL: How long have you been a firefighter and how long with the Reedley Fire Department?

Daniel: My Fire Career started in 1999 in Parlier City with the Paid Call Fire/Fresno County Fire Protection for over 16 years. Joined Reedley Fire Department in 2016 when I made the move to the City of Reedley with my family.

KRL: What kind of training did you go through?

Daniel: Throughout my career, I’ve been given the opportunities to train and participate with many agencies and personnel in Fire and Emergency Response. From Firefighter to Fire Engineer to Fire Station Captain.

KRL: What do you like best about being a firefighter?

Daniel: Being there in a person’s time of need.

KRL: What is the hardest?

Daniel: Call’s that I give my all, yet the outcome is not successful.

KRL: What is a typical day like for you on the job?

Daniel: When the call comes in (pager), respond to the Fire Station, suit up, take the appropriate respond vehicle to the incident. Return back to station, gear down, make sure respond taken, ready for next call.

KRL: Is there one special moment you would like to share?

Daniel: The Feeling of a job well done, lives saved.

KRL: Hobbies?

Daniel: Traveling, camping, family-friends gatherings, shooting.

KRL: Family?

Daniel: Wife-Tori, Daughter-Neela, Daughter-Saleen, and Son-Austin.

KRL: Future plans/goals?

Daniel: Continue my Fire career. Continue to educate myself and help teach upcoming future Firefighters.

KRL: Anything else you would like to share?

Daniel: Thank you for the opportunity to share a piece of my personal life and Fire Career history.
