Found on the street with a severe case of mange and signs of general neglect, Riddick is nevertheless a happy, friendly boy.

Chantel, his foster mom, says that Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network, who took in Riddick, has had his DNA tested and found him to be part Chihuahua and part Shih Tzu. Amazingly, he is housebroken and easily crated. Perhaps at one time, he had a happy home. He also walks well on a leash as long as he is walking with other dogs. Chantel says when he sees other dogs in the distance he pulls and wants to meet them.

Riddick

Riddick came into rescue at about eight months and is now estimated to be a year old. He has been fully vetted. His mange is gone, and he has a full coat. Riddick has no health issues, but like most puppies, he is very energetic and enjoys, as Chantel says, running laps in her fenced in yard. He stays in his crate while Chantel is at work, but her husband does come home at noon to let him out into the yard. One of his favorite games is running and jumping into a pile of leaves.

Riddick loves toys but is rather hard on them and attacks the speakers immediately. He loves attention and someone to play and run with, but he also enjoys sitting and cuddling in a lap. He’s a bit shy with new people but warms up quickly and looks to people, other dogs, and perhaps even cats as potential playmates. Chantel has two middle-aged Cairns who get along well with Riddick and will play with him but, being older, get tired of games and let Riddick know when they’ve had enough.

Riddick loves children, especially Chantel’s eight-year-old nephew, perhaps because they can match Riddick’s high energy level. When her nephew comes over, he enjoys running and playing with Riddick in the yard until both are worn out and ready to rest.

Riddick would be fine in a home with someone or a couple who are still working full time as long as someone can give him a break mid-day. He would really like a family with children middle school age or older to play with, and he’d be fine with another dog. It is unknown how he’d be with cats, but he might simply view them as possible playmates and not be aggressive. He needs a fenced-in yard to run and use up his considerable amount of energy.

Riddick is part of Col. Potter’s Mix It Up program and, as a mix, is offered at a reduced adoption rate.
