KRL: Welcome, let’s start with introductions. How did you get into the Halloween fun?

Kirk Vossler: Well, my name is Kirk Vossler, and I am the owner at Vossler Farms. I am a fourth generation grower and our primary crops are corn, pumpkins, and wheat.

Agritainment*, as it’s known, was gaining in popularity, and so I thought this might be a profitable way to proceed. The Pumpkin Patch came into fruition in 1999, the corn maze was added the following year. It was borne out of a need to diversify my business. (*KRL definition: agritainment is farm-based entertainment including activities such as hayrides, pony rides, wine tasting, cornfield-maze contests, and harvest festivals.)

KRL: How do you come up with the corn maze designs? Is it different every year?

Kirk: My kids usually come up with the ideas for maze design. We use a different design every year. Sometimes it mirrors currents, sometimes just for fun. This year Vossler Farm’s maze design is Lost in Space.vossler

KRL: Is this a scary haunt type of place or is it something the whole family can enjoy?

Kirk: We have a Field of Screams trail that opens on October 24, but there’s no gore on the trail. We try to keep it as PG13 as possible. The rest of the Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze is very family friendly, that’s what it’s all about out here.

KRL: What type of vendors do you include during the Halloween season?

Kirk: We have roasted corn, kettle corn, cookies, hot dogs, Mexican food from Le Mejor, and soon a coffee vendor as well. Over the years it has only gotten bigger with more attractions. Corn boxes for the little ones, mini mazes for everyone, hayrides, and train rides.

KRL: When can visitors join in on the Halloween fun?

Kirk: We traditionally open for the Halloween season, but we also have a sweet corn business during the summer with two locations. It’s turned into a traditional stop for so many families in the valley and for ours as well. All the necessary information about dates, times, and costs can be found at www.vosslerfarms.com.

KRL: Who else is involved with the farm?

Kirk: I have family in every aspect of this business. My sons and daughters help with the day to day harvest and planning. My wife and my sister handle all the reservations and paperwork. Over the years I’ve had all my nieces and nephews in one capacity or another. vossler

KRL: Do you have other events besides the Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze?

Kirk: We do have a variety of party packages available: birthdays, youth groups, company parties, school field trips, reunions. You can email party requests to krisvossler866@gmail[dot]com.
