It seems like just another cold, snowy Christmas Eve in the small town of Trafalgar, British Columbia until Constables Molly Smith and Dave Evans are summoned to the scene of a car accident where two young tourists have gone off the snowy road into the river. At first glance it appears to be an accident, but the autopsy reveals a shocking secret that turns this into a possible murder investigation. 
The two young men in the car, Jason and Ewan, came to Trafalgar with several of their wealthy and spoiled friends for a ski holiday. As Molly is pulled into the investigation by Sergeant John Winters, they find themselves in the midst of a baffling murder with no real suspects, scene of the crime, or definite cause of death.
Throughout the next week, they learn more about the sexual exploits of the dead young men, and Jason’s dysfunctional rich family and friends. Before his death, Jason also wooed a local teenaged girl from the wrong side of the tracks, stirring up trouble with her brother who was recently released from prison. To add even more to the mix, a stalker is released from prison and seems to be lurking about looking for revenge. The twists and turns of this mystery keep you guessing right up to the end on New Year’s Eve.
Molly, whose real name is Moonlight, is a great character. She is strong, ambitious, and fighting to make her way in what in this small town is still a man’s world. She still has much to learn and stumbles through some of the investigation, making mistakes along the way that cause her embarrassment, but also make her a more realistic and sympathetic character. However, she never gives up and with Winters help they sort it all out in the end. I also enjoyed getting to know Winters and his model wife. I look forward to getting to know these characters better as the series continues—this is the third book in the series and came out in 2009. Molly’s mother Lucky is also a lot of fun.

Does sound like an interesting read. I just read André Jute’s Iditarod and am currently working on A Simple Amish Christmas by Vanetta Chapman. I think I am on a snow kick – must have somethign to do with all of the white stuff I’ve been shoveling. Count me in!

Vicky Delany’s book sounds like a real winner — interestting characters and unusual (to me, anyway,) setting. I write historical mysteries with two nosy Puritans as detectives.
