Gone Girl is a very intense and shocking thriller. Nick and Amy Dunne appear to have the perfect marriage after the perfect courtship. On the day of their fifth anniversary though, it seems like things have been unraveling for awhile, and when Amy goes missing all fingers start pointing at Nick. Amy is the world’s darling, having grown up as the inspiration for her parents’ series of children’s books featuring Amazing Amy.
The first half of the movie goes back and forth from Nick’s perspective and Amy’s diary, both telling a different story. Nick just keeps looking guiltier as the story unfolds, and he makes it worse by appearing eerily calm about the disappearance of his wife. Everyone starts believing that he killed her and things aren’t looking at all good for Nick, despite the lack of a body. The second half of the movie gives us a broader narrative that provides us with a bigger picture of what really happened. 
To share any more of the plot would give way too much away, and half the fun of this movie is the shock factor. Gone Girl has more twists and turns than any movie I’ve ever seen and most of them I never saw coming. Of course if you’ve read the book you already know. I am actually thankful that I haven’t read the book yet, as I think some of the thrill of the movie would have been lost.
While not normally a big fan of Ben Affleck, he was perfect for the role of Nick, and Rosamund Pike’s performance of Amy was Oscar worthy! The cast also includes Neal Patrick Harris as an ex boyfriend of Amy’s, Tyler Perry as Nick’s lawyer, Carrie Coon as Nick’s supportive twin sister Margo, Kim Dickens as the persistent police detective Rhonda Boney, and Lisa Baines and David Clennon as Amy’s grieving parents.
If you enjoy a thriller with a great mystery, do not miss Gone Girl! This is an amazing movie and author Gillian Flynn also wrote the screenplay so I would assume it’s pretty true to the book. But be prepared and fasten your seatbelts when you see it because Gone Girl takes you on quite the roller coaster ride!
This movie did earn its R rating with some very intense and at times violent sex scenes, strong language, violence, and nudity.

Loved the book. I doubt if any movie version would be as good as the pictures in my head.
