Details on how to win a copy of 3 mysteries mentioned in past columns at the end of this post.

book coverInterested in the exotic? Canadian author R.J. Harlick takes us to the mystical islands of Haida off the coast of British Columbia in The Silver Totem of Shame. When a totem carver is killed, Meg Harris investigates and discovers a totem pole telling the old tale of a chief’s treasure that incited a deception. Find out how the story impacts our heroine’s life in this, the 6th in the Meg Harris Mysteries.

Kings River Life fav, Cathy Ace, returns with another Cait Morgan Mystery, The Corpse With the Emerald Thumb. Criminologist (and foodie) Cait looks forward to a trip to Mexico until a corpse turns up at the local florist shop and her boyfriend is a suspect. Who in the little town of Punta de las Rocas really wants the woman dead?

SECOND HELPINGS

dirtAnother KRL favorite Edith Maxwell is ready with her second in the Local Food Mysteries, ‘Til Dirt Do Us Part, featuring organic farmer Cameron Flaherty. It’s harvest season in Wesbury, Mass. When a local woman sets out to buy the Old Town Hall, enemies come out of the woodwork. Can Cam weed out a killer before she winds up in the compost pile?

In her second mystery featuring blind forensic psychiatrist Mark Angelotti, Lynne Raimondo takes on drug companies. Chicago attorney Jane Barrett defended an anti-psychotic drug against liability claims only to have her journalist boyfriend die of a fatal dose. Suddenly a murder suspect, she hires Hallie Sanchez to defend her. But, even Hallie has doubts and goes to Angelotti for help. Dante’s Poison packs a punch!

book coverDespite being an ex-felon, paralegal Hollis Morgan wants a career as a lawyer. When a good friend comes to her with a libel suit and winds up dead, she’s on that case as well as one containing a box of 80-yr-old letters telling a tragic story of greed, betrayal and revenge. In Sticks & Stones, the second in the series, R. Franklin James shows words CAN often hurt you.

Financial crime investigator Seamus McCree returns for a second outing in James M. Jackson’s Cabin Fever. Leaving Cincinnati for the family cabin in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, McCree find a naked woman on his porch in the middle of a blizzard. Besides frostbite, the woman has amnesia and rope burns on her wrists and ankles. Snowbound without transportation or phone service, he has to keep the woman alive and get help, unaware that a paramilitary group is hunting for the escaped woman. Chilling!

HOT OFF THE PRESSES!

book coverNaomi Hirahara is starting a new series! Murder On Bamboo Lane is the first in the Ellie Rush Bicycle Cop Mysteries. Ellie is an LAPD cop-on-wheels who dreams of being a homicide detective. Unfortunately, the first corpse she comes across happens to be a former college classmate. Soon she becomes entangled in the coed’s murder despite roadblocks from her best friend, boyfriend and a detective.

FULL DISCLOSURE

After I misspelled Daco Auffenorde’s name wrong in my column, she gave me the true origins. Her father, being a physicist, came up with this formula for naming his daughter: “The derivative (D) of acceleration (A) at the speed of light on cm per second (C) is equal to zero (O).” Hence, DACO. On an episode of StarTalk, Neil Degrasse Tyson (Cosmos) was challenged to guess the meaning of her name. Another fun fact: this author of The Libra Affair was raised in Wernher Von Braun’s Rocket City (Huntsville, Alabama). So, now you know!

To enter to win an ebook copies of The Undercover Genius by Patricia Rice, The Libra Affair by Daco Auffenorde, & The Murder House by Nancy Jarvis, simply email KRL at krlcontests@gmail[dot]com by replacing the [dot] with a period, and with the subject line “attractions,” or comment on this article. A winner will be chosen May 3, 2014. U.S. residents only.

  5. How interesting. My father was named John Ruskin for the noted writer of the last half of the 19th century. (My grandfather was a writer.) So, I picked up Ruskin as a middle name. Not as impressive as DACO’s derivation. Good post as always, Sunny.
