A Flag Retirement Ceremony is a new addition to this year’s Sanger 4th of July Summer Spectacular. The spectacular will take place, on Thursday, July 4, on the Sanger High School sports field, at 1045 Bethel Avenue, in Sanger, and gates will open at 6:30 p.m. Fireworks will begin at dusk (9 p.m.).

Sanger Music Center/Pro Sound “N” Light presents the band Whatever the Matter, which will entertain guests from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Whatever the Matter is a local band, from Dinuba, who performs a variety of music which includes original songs. Bandmates are John Sainz, Steve Crittenden, Josh Harden and John Davis Domingcil. “Four guys that love to create music” is how they describe themselves on their Facebook fan page.

The Flag Retirement portion of the program will be led by AMVETS Post 98. “People are welcome to bring their worn flags to be retired with honor,” said Daniel Galvez from the Sanger Parks and Recreation Department.

The National Anthem will be sung by Sanger eighth grade student, Zaylynn Mangrum. Mangrum attends Fairmont School and is part of the “Sing It” group which recently performed at the Big Fresno Fair and Red Caboose Cafe. The “Sing It” group has recently released a CD, with three original songs written by “Sing It” members.

Advance tickets are two dollars per person and are available at the Sanger City Hall, 1700 7th Street, and three dollars per person at the gate. Children under four are free.

Another option is to park your vehicle, for five dollars per car, with admittance into the celebration included for up to four people, and $10 per car, for more than four people. There will be eight food booths offering a variety of food items and beverages. No outside food, drinks or ice chests are permitted. Food and beverage items for sale will include corn dogs, tacos, burritos, barbecue, kettle corn, sno cones and Italian ices. Arts and crafts and kid’s activities will be available as well. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs or pillows, as seating is on the grass.
