MONSTERS WEEKLY — Fresno Monsters Hockey

WEEKEND RECAP

This past weekend the Fresno Monsters hosted the Johnstown Tomahawks at Selland Arena in downtown Fresno. On Friday night the Monsters struggled against the 3rd place team from the North Division losing 6-1 in front of 4,201 fans. The lone bright spot for the Monsters came at the start of the 3rd period when Matt Salituro scored Fresno’s only goal and made teddy bears rain down to the ice as part of the Monsters annual Teddy Bear toss. 676 stuffed animals were collected Friday night and donated to Toys for Tots.

On Saturday the Monsters came out on a mission to stop this 5 game skid they are on. Fresno scored first with a goal from Ian Janco. Johnstown answered back with 2 of their own taking a 2-1 lead from that point on the teams exchanged goals and when the final buzzer sounded the Monsters found themselves on the short end of a 4-3 hockey game.

“It’s a shame that 4,236 fans watch the Monsters play one of their best games of the year only to lose” Media Relations Director Mark Haupt said. “We deserved to win to this game and it is heartbreaking that we did not end up on top.”

Dan Sherer of the Monsters was the games 2nd star posting a goal and 2 assists Matt Salitiro landed the 3rd star with a goal and 1 assist.
