Feral Paws Rescue: The Adventures of Bobby and Zubie

Bobby and Zubie, both rescued from high-kill shelters, are permanent residents at Feral Paws Rescue and both have endeared themselves to everyone here—especially Zubie, to our CEO, Paula. Both quickly became two of her personal cats, and one could say it was “love at first sight”. This story is about how both Bobby and Zubie became Rescue residents and favorites.

Bobby

Bobby is a handsome, big orange tabby with white markings. When rescued (as an adult) he had an abscess on his back from being entangled in barbed wire, which required skin grafting by our Rescue Veterinarian. This led to him being kenneled separately close to the house so he could receive medication and be constantly monitored to make sure he wouldn’t dig at the sutures with his teeth. Over time, the abscess healed and Bobby, with his very sweet and lovable personality, made his way inside the house. He is allowed outdoor time during the day, and favors going to the fenced in front lawn where he will sunbathe for a while, and is often carried back up to the house by one of the Rescue caregivers. When he is ready to go back inside on his own, he will paw at the patio door (he also does the same when he wants outside). He is the perfect gentleman to the other cats both outside and indoors. Bobby’s favorite place indoors is on the sofa where he will sleep for hours. He truly appreciates his life at the Rescue and being safe!

Zubie

Zubie is a gray and white tabby with the most beautiful hazel-green eyes. He came to the rescue as a very sick kitten and would sleep under a heating pad inside the house. He is now just over two years old. Zubie, or “Z” for short, is slightly smaller than Bobby and much more playful, always seeming to be into everything—such as on the counter tops and cupboards in the kitchen, on top of bookcases and curio cabinets, and high up on the furniture where the TV is situated. He is very agile though and rarely knocks anything over, which seems to be a miracle at times. Zubie loves human food and will beg for things like the meat from a cheeseburger or a chicken burrito. He also loves vegetables. These are just treats, however, in addition to his regular cat food. He is both indoors and outdoors at the Rescue and will often be outside waiting for Paula to come home, and when she does, jump inside her car knowing she has probably brought something special for him. He is definitely a topic of conversation between her and a special person who is currently working in Ukraine, and who loves the photos sent of Zubie—especially ones cuddling with Paula, which Zubie does as much as possible. This person also loves Zubie because no one can “push him around” as he will playfully slap you for attention!

Bobby and Zubie are just two of the many cats at the Rescue, all of whom were saved from high-kill shelters, and all of whom have a special place in the hearts of everyone here. The mission of Feral Paws Rescue has always been, and continues to be, to save as many as possible from these shelters, and for Bobby and Zubie, they have found their forever home here.

Finally, in closing for this month of December, we at Feral Paws Rescue want to wish everyone reading this a very Happy Holiday season, and a Happy New Year!
