Elayne Gonzalez is the founder of Mell’s Mutts, an animal rescue in Fresno, CA. They will be sharing their animal rescue stories with us each month.

We’d like to introduce you to a few really special little guys: Prince Eric, Simba, and Murphy. All three found themselves at our local city kill shelter. They sat there unclaimed and all alone, and all three were in danger of being euthanized. They were all so withdrawn, scared, and in horrible physical condition, but we could see past that and…well, let us tell you all about them.

Prince Eric, named after the Prince in The Little Mermaid, is about five years old, weighs about fifteen pounds, and a Poodle mix. He was so very scared he would not make eye contact with anyone. He was also very matted and smelled so very bad! After a vet visit and a wonderful groom, he turned into a true Prince! This guy is so very sweet and calm. He really loves people, in fact that’s really all he wants in life. He will follow you around all day and sit on your lap forever! He gets along with other dogs and tolerates cats, too. This very kind soul would love a calm family who is home most of the time and will allow him to love them forever!

Simba, named after the great Lion King is definitely a true King! We believe Simba is a Cocker Spaniel mix, about eight years old, and fifteen pounds. Simba was so badly matted he had to be sedated just to be shaved. His fur has started to return and he is such a handsome guy! Simba is a little timid at first, but after a little bit, he warms up to everyone! He is very quiet and would prefer a home with adults. Simba is doing so well learning how to walk on a leash and indoor manners; he even has sparkling clean teeth now. He had a full dental cleaning and care! Simba has the heart of a Lion and is patiently waiting for a forever home.

Our final little guy is Murphy. Oh sweet Murphy! This old man was terrified, sitting in a little metal kennel all alone shaking like a leaf! He is definitely a senior, maybe twelve years or more, but Murphy has a lot of spunk left in him! He is a seven-pound Poodle. He, like Simba, had a full dental cleaning, so his teeth are nice and clean now—well, at least the ones this old man has left. Murphy is so sweet and quiet you can put him in a purse and take him with you everywhere. He definitely wants a family that will let him curl up and chill out all day long.

All three of these amazing little doggies are so very sweet and deserving of their very own family, and wouldn’t that be great if their Christmas wishes came true and they were in forever homes for Christmas?!
