Looking for an inexpensive, easy to wrap, home delivery gift for friends? Books are the answer. Plus, you can borrow them back later (that’s fair, right?). You’ll be surprised at your favorite authors starting a new series. Some of this month’s offerings have wonderful recipes to eat by the hearth. So, curl up with hot buttered rum, ignore the messy house, and curl up and read. Merry, merry!

Double surprise for all you Kathi Daley fans out there. She’s starting a new series set in White Eagle, Montana. The Tess and Tilly mysteries feature postal worker Tess and her dog, Tilly. Another author starting a new series is Karen Rose Smith, the author of the Caprice De Luca Mysteries. In the heart of Pennsylvania’s Amish country is Daisy’s Tea Garden, a Victorian house that serves scones and tea. Daisy Swanson is a widow living with two teens and Aunt Iris. When her aunt starts dating a wealthy man, Daisy worries about his bitter ex after she created a scene at a catered party. Nancy J. Parra, aka Nancy Coco, introduces us to her new Wine Country Mystery Series. In A Case of Syrah, Syrah, Taylor O’Brian is the founder of Off the Beaten Path Wine Tours. She lives in a small winery with her aunt and plans to take groups around Sonoma County. Everything is going great until a yoga instructor is found dead with Taylor’s corkscrew in her neck. Two weeks after the murder, her assistant marries the widower and his sister is found dead. Is she next on the killer’s list?

It’s not a season to make merry but A Season of Blood in the year 1390. At Hailes Abbey in Gloucestershire, England, a Holy Blood relic is stolen and two monks left dead. Crispin Guest, a disgraced former knight and now a medieval detective, finds and tries to return the relic. Somehow, it keeps coming back to him. Could someone at Westminster be conspiring with the assassins? Jeri Westerson keeps us guessing in her ninth Crispin Guest Medieval Noir mystery. It’s beginning to look a lot like Mistletoe Murder over at Dewberry Farm in Texas. Farmer Lucy Resnick is selling her jams, soaps, and mistletoe bundles at the Buttercup Christmas Market. She spends evenings with her knitting group or her veterinarian boyfriend. But right before Christmas, a local man is found with a knife in his back and sprig of mistletoe in his hair. Local sheriff thinks it’s an open-and-shut case, but Lucy discovers that the victim’s life was more tangled than last year’s Christmas lights. Unless she wraps up the case fast, there might be more than one funeral this holiday season. This is the fourth in the series by Karen MacInerney.

Author Winnie Archer warns to Crust No One in her second Bread Shop Mystery. Business is rising at Yeast of Eden, a Mexican bread shop in Santa Sofia, California.
