Looking for an inexpensive, easy to wrap, home delivery gift for friends? Books are the answer. Plus, you can borrow them back later (that’s fair, right?). You’ll be surprised at your favorite authors starting a new series. Some of this month’s offerings have wonderful recipes to eat by the hearth. So, curl up with hot buttered rum, ignore the messy house, and curl up and read. Merry, merry!

bookDouble surprise for all you Kathi Daley fans out there. She’s starting a new series set in White Eagle, Montana. The Tess and Tilly mysteries feature postal worker Tess and her dog, Tilly. Letters and small town gossip is what Tess delivers. The town is prepping for the annual Christmas Festival when a close friend is murdered. The two join forces with the new veterinarian in town to uncover the truth in The Christmas Letter. Kathi has also published her twenty-seventh Zoe Donovan, Reindeer Roundup, which includes recipes.

bookAnother author starting a new series is Karen Rose Smith, the author of the Caprice De Luca Mysteries. In the heart of Pennsylvania’s Amish country is Daisy’s Tea Garden, a Victorian house that serves scones and tea. Daisy Swanson is a widow living with two teens and Aunt Iris. When her aunt starts dating a wealthy man, Daisy worries about his bitter ex after she created a scene at a catered party. Then there was gossip that his children were going to be cut out of his will. With the tea shop a crime scene and her aunt a suspect, Daisy puts the orange pekoe on the back burner while she and a former Philadelphia detective clear her aunt’s name. Murder with Lemon Tea Cakes includes a recipe for the cake and other goodies.

bookNancy J. Parra, aka Nancy Coco, introduces us to her new Wine Country Mystery Series. In A Case of Syrah, Syrah, Taylor O’Brian is the founder of Off the Beaten Path Wine Tours. She lives in a small winery with her aunt and plans to take groups around Sonoma County. Everything is going great until a yoga instructor is found dead with Taylor’s corkscrew in her neck. Two weeks after the murder, her assistant marries the widower and his sister is found dead. Is she next on the killer’s list?

bookIt’s not a season to make merry but A Season of Blood in the year 1390. At Hailes Abbey in Gloucestershire, England, a Holy Blood relic is stolen and two monks left dead. Crispin Guest, a disgraced former knight and now a medieval detective, finds and tries to return the relic. Somehow, it keeps coming back to him. He also must protect a former nemesis from murder charges and protect a mysterious and beautiful woman caught between Church politics and the intrigues of King Richard’s court. Could someone at Westminster be conspiring with the assassins? Jeri Westerson keeps us guessing in her ninth Crispin Guest Medieval Noir mystery. (this one is actually released January 1, 2018-but available for pre-order)

bookIt’s beginning to look a lot like Mistletoe Murder over at Dewberry Farm in Texas. Farmer Lucy Resnick is selling her jams, soaps, and mistletoe bundles at the Buttercup Christmas Market. She spends evenings with her knitting group or her veterinarian boyfriend. But right before Christmas, a local man is found with a knife in his back and sprig of mistletoe in his hair. Local sheriff thinks it’s an open-and-shut case, but Lucy discovers that the victim’s life was more tangled than last year’s Christmas lights. Unless she wraps up the case fast, there might be more than one funeral this holiday season. This is the fourth in the series by Karen MacInerney.

bookAuthor Winnie Archer warns to Crust No One in her second Bread Shop Mystery. Business is rising at Yeast of Eden, a Mexican bread shop in Santa Sofia, California. Ivy Culpepper is enjoying her apprenticeship as well as all the gossip from the Blackbird Ladies. But when the produce supplier goes missing, a closer look shows financial trouble, relationship woes, and plenty of people who wouldn’t mind if he disappeared. Ivy and the Blackbird Ladies are on the case.

bookAdd a little spice to your life with Gail Oust’s fifth Spice Shop Mystery. When the Realtor of the Year in Brandywine, Georgia, is found floating in a fishing hole, the sheriff is a suspect as well as her love interest. Piper Prescott, owner of Spice It Up!, is out to save the man’s reputation and freedom. But when her shop is burglarized and she is forced off the road late one night, she realizes she’s got to quickly close the case. Ginger Snapped also includes recipes.
