A loss is a loss, and Reedley College football coach Randy Whited will tell you that as well, but the takeaway truth from Saturday’s 28-24 loss to Hartnell College is that the Tigers are back – back to the level of performance and expectation we haven’t seen in several years.reedleycollege

The Hartnell Panthers are a fine football team, as their 8-1 record shows, and they head into a showdown with West Hills for the conference title next Saturday. But the Tigers were right with them all the way Saturday night, and actually led the game 24-21 before giving up the game winning score midway through the fourth quarter. A couple of dropped passes cost the Tigers big time, and the Hartnell defense kept the lethal combination of Tiger quarterback Joshua Allen and wide receiver Raphael Aroujo-Lopes in check most of the game.

The Tigers finish the season this Saturday against Monterey Peninsula, and win would give them a 5-5 season record. The four wins they now have are the most for a Tiger team since 2009, so progress has been made, and the future looks bright. With new offensive coordinator Ernie Rodriguez in place, the Tigers are now an elite offensive team, and are sure to attract some prime time athletes to the program.
