Details at the end of this post on how to enter to win a copy of Crypt Suzette, and a link to purchase it from Amazon, and an indie bookstore where a portion of the sale goes to help support KRL.

Val Deniston runs the café inside the local gym. Members go for the burn and then for smoothies, lunch, and dessert. Off hours, she caters for dinner parties. Dorothy, an old friend of Val’s granddad has opened a bookstore and asked for catering for the store’s Halloween party. It’s a fun night, vampire filled, with customers dressed like characters from favorite books.

mysterySuzette is a young woman who rents a room from Granddad. The house is large enough that Val and Granddad barely see her coming and going. Suzette is friendly enough but school, a job, and writing a book take up most of her time.
When Suzette’s body is found alongside the road, it’s assumed she was the victim of a hit and run driver. Nothing much is known about her past but hints say Suzette was being followed, possibly threatened or stalked. Val and Granddad believe Suzette was murdered, but the police don’t agree. It’s up to the pair to provide enough evidence to change their minds.

This is book six in the series. Val is expanding her business as well as her personal life. She does things impulsively but doesn’t put herself in harm’s way. When Val first moved in with Granddad, he was depressed, still mourning the loss of his wife. When he began to recover, he promoted himself as the Five Ingredient Cook, taking Val’s recipes and deciding to leave out ingredients, without testing. Val tried to salvage them. Now he does his own testing. He’s also studied how to do investigations and learned to search online. In this book, he declares himself to be a ghost hunter. One of the benefits of a series is the chance to see the characters grow and change. Readers will enjoy following their adventures and the potential romance for both Granddad and Val.

Since they are both cooks, recipes are included as The Codger Cook’s Recipes: Crêpes and Orange Butter Sauce for Crêpes Suzette, Sweet Potato Rounds with Goat Cheese, Cranberries, and Nuts, Parsnipity Pork, and Madeleines.
