video gameSeptember was an amazing month for games. Much anticipated sequels arrived and famous game series continued. But unfortunately, the amazing games were overshadowed by the upsetting news that Telltale Games, the developers of award winning games such as The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us, are downsizing to only twenty-five employees and then shutting down for good. This studio is responsible for some of my favorite games of all time. There still is no official statement on what will happen to the final season of The Walking Dead game, episode two released September 25, but there is no word on whether they will finish the season. It unfortunately does not seem likely. We may never get to know how Clementine’s story ends.

video gameBesides that depressing news, exciting things did happen. Spider-Man for the Playstation 4 was released on September 7. Finally, a great Spider-Man game has arrived. The game features Peter Parker eight years after he first became Spider-Man. He is working for Octavius as an intern, and Mary Jane is far out of the picture romantically. The mechanics of swinging through the city as Spider-man are marvelous, smooth, and so fun. The game features side missions as well with five different types of crimes to stop. Various Spider-man suits are available to wear in game as you achieve more tasks.

video gameShadow of the Tomb Raider, the third game in Lara Croft origin story arc, released on September 14. If you purchased the Croft edition, however, you got to play the game two days early. The game has received rave reviews, particularly because of its innovative new gameplay mechanics (new ways to hide, new weapons, new skills, etc.) and Lara Croft’s major character development. The game also featured a cultural immersion mode which allowed the characters to speak in their native languages. I loved every moment of this game and cannot wait for more.

video gameTransference, psychological thriller developed by SpectreVision and Ubisoft Montreal, released on September 18. In the game, the player goes through a family’s dark issues, through a computer-like world. Players and critics are disappointed that the game is only an hour long.

Life is Strange 2
released on September 27. The game features a latino teen boy who suddenly becomes homeless when tragedy strikes his family, and he is forced to run away from home with his brother. Mysterious powers are involved, just like the first game, this time featuring levitation type powers instead of time travel. Critics are loving the game’s diverse set of characters and the relatable dialog. video game

The depressing news about Telltale Games will linger in the gaming world for quite some time, but never forget, there are always more games to play.
