What can be a better way to spend a rainy fall weekend than cuddling and watching some attention-catching movies with amazing plot twist and a little horror? I certainly can’t name a single thing (apart from books) that can top that!

To prove that to you, today I am going to share a short list of my top 5 best detective movies that are definitely worth watching. Prepare for plot twists and mind blowing action, while you solve all these mysteries together in these five great movies!

movieChinatown (1974)
This move with the main character portrayed by Jack Nicholson will definitely capture your attention. Follow him in the story of a private detective who works with matrimonial affairs and get into a web of fraud, corruption and murder that is not so easy to get away from. This old, but brilliant movie is definitely going to spice things up during the rainy day and bring up some questions too. So try it out!

Se7en (1995)
Here is another amazing movie by the great director David Flincher that will also keep you on the edge of your seats. It tells the story of a killer who tries to teach society about all seven deadly sins by killing people who best represent them. It is also about two detectives – one young (Brad Pitt) and another older (Morgan Freeman), who is retiring at the end of the week. They will do their best to catch him and to understand his motives. Try this one too and just wait until the unbelievable end of the movie.

movieThe Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)
David Flincher’s love to amaze people with unique and intriguing stories shows in this American adaptation of the Swedish movie and book trilogy too. I would recommend that you watch both versions – American and Swedish to compare and get the most out of a story. Especially since the Swedish company made all three movies, while Flincher made only the first one out of three. This movie tells the story of a journalist (Daniel Craig) who starts to work on a decades-old case of missing girl. He soon gets help from a real girl with the dragon tattoo on her back (Rooney Mara) and starts the quest of solving this mystery. Try this movie too and fall in love with this Millennium trilogy right away.

The Usual Suspects (1995)
If you love Se7en then this movie is going to amaze you too. Full of plot twists, an unexpected ending, and detective challenges, The Usual Suspects is called one of the smartest and interesting movies made in that decade. You will see for yourself as soon as you start watching it. There is not much I can tell you about it, without giving too much away. So hurry up and watch it, and solve the biggest mystery in this movie.

movieZodiac (2007)
Finally, a movie that was inspired by real events in California in the 1970s. It tells the story of a serial killer in the San Francisco Bay Area who mocks police with his letters and cryptic messages. Everyone is trying to solve it to understand the criminal’s mind, but not everyone manages to do it. In this movie, we follow the investigators and reporters who try to catch the murderer and solve the mystery. Based on Robert Graysmith’s book, the movie’s focus is on the lives and careers of the detectives and newspaper people who were obsessed with this case. Become obsessed too and definitely watch this true story!
