Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno shares with us every other month about their rescue dogs.

Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno would like to introduce you to this two-year-old, handsome gentleman named Meelo.

Meelo’s story is like many other dogs that find themselves in a shelter or rescue. He once had a family but was surrendered to Labrador Retriever of Fresno. Due to no fault on his part, he came to live with a foster family. It was a change for him being in a new home with strangers. Soon realizing being in a loving LRRF foster home is a wonderful place to be, he settled in and became very comfortable.

During this time, Meelo has proven to be a well-mannered boy, with soulful eyes that will leave you weak in the knees. He has excellent manners and is both house-trained and crate trained. He is not destructive and does not chew on anything other than his toys. What a good boy he is!

Not only is he eager to please and tries his best to do what is asked of him, he is highly intelligent and would excel in training classes. Currently, he is working on his leash training and doing fantastic. He will need continued training with his new family as they learn to walk together.

Playing with toys is one of his favorite things to do, but he sure loves to be with people and by their side. Meelo is also the king of cuddling, showing affection to his people, and loves to get pets in return. He truly is a loving and loyal companion. He hasn’t met small dogs or cats yet but gets along great with other big dogs and could easily join a family as the only dog or one with canine siblings.

As with all LRRF dogs, he is neutered and up to date on all vaccinations. Now, he just needs to find his own FUREVER family to give him the same love and dedication that he is willing to give them.

If you are interested in being his family and doing just that, more information and an adoption application can be found at Labrescuefresno.org.

LRRF rescues dogs from a plethora of situations. Some have been abused and neglected or used in puppy mills. Others have been abandoned, left medically untreated and diagnosed as terminally ill, perhaps a senior dog in its final days. Others are puppies from an “accidental” litter. Many are pulled from shelters that are full and are being forced to euthanize innocent dogs every day. Additionally, many are surrendered by owners for various reasons. This is the harsh reality of rescue.

When LRRF takes in a dog, they are placed in foster homes until they can be adopted. Those who are not well enough to be adopted remain in permanent foster homes. They will be loved and cared for as they have always deserved to be, until their last day. Every need that any foster dog has is provided by LRRF. They are truly spoiled, as they deserve to be.

LRRF is a no kill, non-profit 501(c)3, that is 100% foster based. We rescue abandoned, homeless, and neglected Labradors from all over central California and beyond. We wish to end suffering and promote the welfare of labs and lab mixes through direct action and education. Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno believes that all companion animals should be treated with dignity, compassion, and kindness. Through the generous hearts and hands of those who support LRRF, we can ensure that the animals who come into our care will never again be alone, hungry, sick, afraid, or in pain.

The number of dogs in need has increased drastically over the course of the last year and the need for fosters is greater than ever before. Fostering is one of the most important volunteer opportunities available with the lab rescue.

The foster home is the dog’s first step out of homelessness and towards a safe and better life. Fostering a dog is extremely rewarding. Words cannot describe the feeling of watching a scared, malnourished dog thrive and become a beautiful companion that can be placed with a new family. The foster family also provides valuable insight into the dog’s personality so that the perfect family match can be made. Not to mention all the puppy/dog kisses that come with the job!

LRRF has established itself as one of the most active animal rescue organizations in the valley. We continue to push the boundaries of service to the community by developing exciting and innovative ways to serve the animals who so desperately need our help. We are constantly looking for volunteers, fosters, donations, and supplies that can help us make a difference.
