Every time we welcome a dog or cat suffering from severe medical conditions, our hearts ache. The sight of their small faces, bearing the weight of pain, is deeply distressing. Often, pain that is neglected becomes something much harder to bear.
Take, for instance, Trubbish (28679), a three-year-old Pekingese who recently arrived at our shelter. Trubbish came to us grappling with a severe case of Demodex, a skin condition caused by mites. While early treatment involves simple medication, neglecting the condition can lead to painful rashes, fur loss, and exposed sores, leaving the skin vulnerable and unprotected.
“It probably started out as a small spot that was neglected,” says our animal care adoption supervisor, Ruben Cantu, “and fleas don’t help with her living outside for an unknown period of time.”
Imagine the sense of abandonment and betrayal that Trubbish must feel. Rebuilding trust and hope can be a daunting process. However, with your support, we can start the healing process for Trubbish, addressing their scars and helping them regain a sense of well-being.
Trubbish’s condition is indicative of a troubling trend we see all too often: neglect. Many of the animals we rescue arrive with matted fur, rashes, and scars. Trubbish, unfortunately, shows all these signs of past suffering. Found abandoned, they were left without care or protection.
With a regimen of medicated baths, lotion treatments, and medication, Trubbish has a chance at a full recovery. Yet, the road ahead is long, and Trubbish needs your support to believe that a loving home is within reach.
“We hope to have Trubbish fully healed and ready for adoption by our Super Adoption event on Saturday, August 24th,” says our animal care operation supervisor, Maritza Lopez.
Your generous donations make it possible for us to provide the crucial care these animals need. Please donate today to give Trubbish, and others like them, a chance at a brighter future. Your support not only aids in their recovery but also reaffirms that they are not alone and that they deserve love.
