Senior pets arriving in our care often face heartbreaking circumstances, left without caregivers due to their owners’ passing. They move from one family member to another until they can no longer find care.

Mr. Kittenstein

For 18-year-old Mr. Kittenstein (28495), this was the case after his owner passed away, leaving him with no permanent place to stay. He eventually ended up in our care showing signs of neglect, including severely overgrown claws embedded in his paw pads, causing him significant pain.

He was given as a gift to someone back in 2004 but unfortunately, that person passed away, says our cat-care specialist, Anjanette Mendoza. “Ownership was passed to another family but they moved out of state and could no longer care for Mr. Kittenstein.”

Thanks to ongoing support, we can provide care for senior cats like Mr. Kittenstein, trimming his claws and ensuring he receives the attention he deserves. Adjusting to shelter life can be stressful, especially for cats like him who may have come from single-cat households.

“Fortunately he’s doing really well for an old cat,” says Mendoza. “Usually, they hide in the back of the kennels, they are very stressed and can cause them to develop health conditions.” These health issues can shorten the lifespan of our senior cats.

Ideally, Mr. Kittenstein will find a loving home where he can enjoy his twilight years comfortably, despite being often overlooked due to his age. He remains remarkably healthy and is a sweet and gentle companion suited for a quiet household.

“I believe he has a strong chance of being adopted because of his friendly demeanor and he appears less frail compared to other cats his age,” says Mendoza.

If necessary, we are committed to making our shelter a permanent home for him, supported by donations that allow us to care for pets awaiting adoption, regardless of whether they find furever homes. Please visit valleyanimal.org to donate. Thank you for your ongoing support.

Mr. Kittenstein is currently undergoing a thorough health evaluation. For further inquiries, please email our cat adoption center at cats@valleyanimal[dot]org. Every pet, regardless of age, deserves love and care, and it’s our mission to ensure Mr. Kittenstein experiences that compassion.

Please visit valleyanimal.org to donate. Your generosity means the world to us and the animals in our care. Thank you for your ongoing support.
