Tito, a senior dog struggling on the mean streets, collapsed on a driveway. Luckily for this little boy, a good Samaritan saw him, picked him up, and took him to the Austin, Texas, shelter. He weighs about eleven and a half pounds and is judged to be about fourteen years old.
The shelter wanted to get this senior out of their chaotic environment, so they called Elizabeth of Lone Star Westie Rescue. Even though the shelter workers knew he wasn’t a Westie, they felt that Elizabeth’s organization would take care of him and give him a good shot at living out his senior years in comfort.Elizabeth said that when he came to them in May, he was a mess. His coat was knotted, and his toes were full of burrs. He also had obvious trouble walking. Elizabeth and another volunteer spent a long time cleaning his coat and then they gave him a bath, which he enjoyed.
Tito is a mix of unknown origins, but he is a very sweet boy. He is potty trained and crate trained so Elizabeth thinks he may have had a home at some point. He is not a lap boy, but he loves to sit next to Elizabeth on the sofa, and he also loves attention. He spends time with Elizabeth when she works in her home office lying quietly near her.
This low maintenance boy loves to be around people. He is not interested in toys, but he does get along well with other dogs, though not for play. If they bounce at him or try to get him to play, he warns them off. He is just happy to exist among friends.
Tito has arthritis in his back legs and is not interested in long walks. He needs a fenced-in yard, but not necessarily a large yard. He also has trouble with stairs so a multi-level home or apartment would not be a good place for him.
Tito has an upcoming vet visit for a dental issue when he may have several teeth removed. His bloodwork has been checked and is quite good, especially for his age. Once his dental issue is done, Tito will be interviewing for a forever home. Rest assured, that if the perfect, forever home is not found, Tito will live out his final years in comfort with Lone Star Westie Rescue.
A retired person or couple with whom he could hang out would be an ideal home for Tito. Children would not be good for him as they would most likely be too active and busy for him.
Anyone looking for a sweet companion that is just happy to hang out and watch TV would make a good fit for Tito.
