I am very excited to present to you our faithful readers our first ever Earth Day issue! While not every article in this issue is related to Earth Day, a large portion of them are. From the very beginning, KRL has felt that Going Green and all it entails was very important. When we first started putting together the categories for the magazine Going Green was right there from the very beginning, and while some categories have fallen by the wayside and new ones have developed, Going Green has remained.
Due to a lack of consistent writers on this subject, the posting of articles in this category has not been as consistent as I had originally hoped for, but then all aspects of KRL have continued to grow over these past three years. Topics have included various types of recycling, composting, sustainability in theatre, eco friendly school buses, and more.
While we will continue to look for unique going green article ideas, it was decided with the approaching of Earth Day to take a different approach with our Going Green section from here forward. Though we may have an occasional Going Green article throughout the year, primarily we will be focusing these efforts on having a special Earth Day issue every year! Our hope is that next year the entire issue will be Earth Day related.
KRL itself strives to be a “green” business. Being online only is the biggest step in that, but we also conduct most of our business via email instead of regular mail, and since we all work for KRL from our homes very little pollution or use of gasoline goes into producing KRL each week–only those times we go out for interviews or to cover events. Our staff each on their own is also encouraged to recycle and go “green.” It’s safe to say that going green is a part of KRL’s DNA.
Should the day come that we have an actual office, I pledge that in every way possible we will continue to be “green” in that setting as well, because I think I’m safe in saying every one of our staff members knows the importance of looking out for our planet!
So I hope you all enjoy our Earth Day issue where we have chosen to focus our mystery section on e-books, we’ve shared about Reedley College’s Green Club, shared of events for Earth Day going on in Santa Cruz, and ways that Santa Cruz businesses and individuals are going green, and have articles on recycling furniture to decorate our gardens, and Green Markets in New York. So check it all out, and while you are here be sure not to miss out on our animal rescue articles as well–what better Earth Day pledge than to save animals in need. We also have some Fresno area Earth Day events listed in our event pages.
Happy Earth Day from the KRL staff. Now get out there and find your own ways that you can “go green” for Earth Day and beyond! Feel free to share some of those ideas in our comments section below! Who knows, maybe your idea will show up in a future Earth Day issue!
